Glasgow 2015

Recommended Posts

Hi just new too the forum, my boss has just bought over the speedway and went a couple of times last season. Looking forward to opening day on the 29th March V Edinburgh , I've seen some of the work that's going on at the stadium and I'm sure the whole show will live upto Allied/Glasgow speedway expectations.

Glasgow have signed Richard Lawson on a full transfer.

  • Glasgow Tigers have landed another major boost ahead of the new speedway season, by signing Richard Lawson on a permanent transfer.

The Ashfield club have bought their new No 1 from Workington Comets ahead of his first campaign in the red and white. Lawson’s signing was announced at the end of last year, but he was only on loan at that stage.

The deal to make him a full Tigers asset means that his matches for them take precedence over any fixtures he has in the Elite League, where he rides for Lakeside Hammers.

It comes just days after Glasgow secured the permanent transfer of Australian rider Aaron Summers from Redcar Bears.

The investment in both riders is the latest from new owners Gerry and Michael Facenna, of Allied Vehicles, who are also spending big to make the Tigers’ facilities at Ashfield Stadium among the best in British speedway.

Lawson says he had no hesitation in agreeing to join Glasgow permanently given the excitement that is surrounding the club.

The 28-year-old Cumbrian said: “I was very open to the suggestion of being transferred to Glasgow and being a full part of what is being planned there. I’ve not ridden for Workington in a number of seasons now, and it will be nice to race again for my parent club.

“As the season gets ever closer, I’m feeling more and more excited about the challenges ahead and helping to repay the faith Glasgow have placed in me.”

Alan Dick, Glasgow co-promoter, said: “We are thrilled to confirm that Richard is now a fully-fledged Tiger. He’s a popular rider with Glasgow fans despite never having ridden for us and he will certainly provide us with that ability to win heats home and away which every club requires from its No 1 rider.

“In speaking with Workington it became evident that Richard was for sale, and we quickly decided that there were only benefits from striking a deal to purchase him on a full-time basis.

“We know that Richard will also race for Elite side Lakeside, however, now as his parent club, our league and cup fixtures will take precedence should there arise any fixture clashes.

“With everything which is going on around the club being so very positive this latest signing is yet another boost to our supporters and just the latest reason to feel very excited about the future.”

Meanwhile, with the new season set to start next month, the club are continuing to work with the UK Visas and Immigration department to secure the necessary paperwork required to allow winter signing Kozza Smith to link-up with the Tigers.

The Australian, 26, is one of several overseas riders who is having to obtain the correct permissions to ride in British speedway in 2015 – following some administrative issues for clubs across the country.

Glasgow have signed Richard Lawson on a full transfer.

I suppose the burning question is, for how much?

Workington paid £11K to Glasgow for Mason Campton. Glasgow have already paid £19K to get Aaron Summers.

So what price Richard Lawson?

Wasn't that just a rumour?

Glad we have Richard as an asset :) now we can stop worrying about his availability in relation to clashes between Glasgow and Lakeside meetings. I read he missed a fair few for Redcar last year due to this?

I wonder now how the likes of Nick and James will be affected by fixture clashes?

Great news........................

no excuse for Dickie to miss any laps at the Armadale san siro, wonderful.........Cookie does love playing with him, and pointing out the best lines.

wrap him up in cotton wool, grease proof paper or whatever, and no resorting to guests or any nonsense if he breaks a fingernail or rips his tights.

Great piece of business by the Tigers, absolute theft for a reserve.

Wouldn't read too much into the figure quoted by smod pluck a figure out the air double it and multiply by 4 that is what he thinks so just post's regardless with no evidence to back it up.

i casn reveal the full transfer is still not complete, see official Workington site. the figure i am led to believe was one pound , nineteen shillings and six pence . that equates to todays money as a lot

Richards had more transfers than Manhattan. best of luck to him..

mason was and proberbly never will be worth 11k and if spud was 19k then lawson should be 25k to 30k at least going on the other 2 listed

but lets face it would proberbly never ride for workington again so best option for both teams if there both happy

I'm sure Lakeside & Coventry fans would love to see Cook test himself when the Aces come to town instead of breezing to maximums round Armadale with his eyes shut but there we are.
