Peterborough Vs Edinburgh League Cup Final 1st Leg Sunday 5th October

Recommended Posts

Excellent day out today. There were 3 or 4 top drawer races with heat 3 and 9 my favourites. Monarchs top 5 is solid at the moment, only running 2 lasts: one off 15m and the other in ht15 when the meeting was won. Derek tried hard and should have got 2nd in ht2. Both reserves will have to be at their best no matter who we get in the play off final but the meeting today was never really in doubt.

3 teams beat us when we had a hard month in August, 2 are now avenged I hope Somerset get through so we can get that final score settled.

Big thanks to TheScotsman for the help today, really good to meet you.

Finally I hope that is not the final curtain on Peterborough panthers, set up there is by far the best in the country and the track is top notch too. Just need to get someone to manage it properly and the fans to get behind them.

Good result for the boys.

Just hope we can finish the job on Friday - 2nd meetings of double headers are always a risk for the home side.

I thought the atmosphere seemed a bit flat compared to previous meetings - maybe the gravity of Peterborough's situation was partly the cause?

Two or three decent heats but not as many as recently.

The track seemed to have a bit less grip than usual but rode well.

Of the guests, Lawson didn't match the scoring that Bjerre would have given, but Kurtz put in a decent shift for paid 12 so not too far off Dryml's potential score.

R/R scored 4 so probably a point more than Hall would have got!!

Panthers' reserves scored paid 13 between them - all bar 1 against Monarchs's reserves (the other was Barrett ahead of Kurtz)!!

Barrett actually looked quite useful, especially on the tight line round turns 1&2 - just proving my point that he might get double figures!! Just needed a 7th ride!!

For Monarchs, Justin, Cookie & Sam were on another level, especially Justin. Just gave up the last heat 5-1 to save themselves for the bigger challenges ahead!!

Max wasn't really making the starts but was trying hard, though was unlucky with bike problems.

Ditto Stevie, though he came through from the back well in heat 14.

The reserves were poor, especially so since Panthers' reserves are amongst the weakest in the league.

Derek was maybe unlucky to drop it on turn 3 lap 4 of heat 3 whilst a comfortable 2nd. Maybe his wrist injury contributed to this or his form in the other races?

Great to meet Scotchopper, Scotland1314 and John a friend of his.

Great stadium, great result, great weather, great company - what more could you ask for!!

(And if you are looking for a great pub - the Cuckoo in Alwalton is superb - thanks to John for the recommendation!!

Enjoyable afternoon at Peterborough, nice sunshine and well prepared track, some of the racing was quite good and an amazing heat 15, Former Brummie Ostergaard comng from the back and fighting all the way with another former Brummie Sedgie.

It will be a great shame if we lose this great stadium and track, hopefully somebody esle will come in and help out.

I never thought I would ever say this but Margaret Vardy was the ref today and she did a good job of keeping the meeting running along steadily, the first 10 heats done in an hour, no messing about, the riders just came out and got on with it, no silly grading because the track had been well prepared before the meeting started. This kept the action coming even though we had the dreaded rirder replacement as well.

Well done Referee Vardy.

the score flattered the Panthers - but as said previously heat 15 was a cracker - I hope Ulrich was wearing dark underwear - looked like he was heading into the fence on turn 4 lap3..... :o have to agree that Edinburghs reverses we even more awful than ours!

Thought Carl Johnson came accross when interviewed - and was honest in what he said.

I have to say the Programme was a load of tosh for £2.50 - have they been taking advice off Uncle Len on how to rip punters off with an overpriced sub standard product... :nono:

Enjoyed the 125cc v 150cc Challenge meeting that followed - some good young talent on deplay there.... ;)

Lets hope we see the Panthers in 2015! :t:

Well, I enjoyed the racing yesterday though for a Cup Final and the last home meeting of the season, I thought the crowd was very poor with no atmosphere at all...

Is it always that low a crowd??

The only sound I heard from the home support was when Ostergaard won a race... We got the impression that the result didn't matter but the heat wins and points scoring of Ostergaard did... As long as he won a race, the crowd seemed happy...

Was a very odd atmosphere...

As for the racing, well, there were a lot of races that kept you interested without really being "that's what you pay your money for" type races... Heats 13 (How has nobody mentioned the double overtake of Lawson after he wobbled coming into turn 3 and subsequent 2 lap duel between Ostergaard and Masters?) and 15 (even though, lets be fair, with the match won, were the Edinburgh boys really on the gas? Were they really going to put it on the line with so many huge meetings still to come?) were the stand-outs but those alone, it was a routine performance from us. Top 5 were in no mood to relent on the season and the reserves really should be scoring points against some of the Peterborough lower order.

Hopefully makes the second leg a formality (though now being the second meeting of a DH, adds an extra banana skin in there) and onto the meetings still to come with silverware in the cabinet... However, I fear we'll be crucified at Somerset (or Ipswich for the matter) in the reserve department unless Derek can get fully fit and Aaron can find an extra 10mph from his bike...

For all those saying that the PL and the League Cup didn't really mean too much? Remember, the PL saved your skin when it looked as though you'd be out in the cold and is easily the best league in Britain. I'm sure you'd also be singing from a slightly different song sheet had you built up a 20pt lead to bring North.

Lastly, Still enjoy my infrequent visits to the Showground, fingers crossed for you guys that you can come to the tapes in 2015 in whatever league possible.)
