Happiness is 40-38. :t::approve: :approve:

I am commenting for our younger fans whom may not understand the 40-38 comment. It harks back to the 13 heat matches of many years ago. Us older fans were treated to 13 heat matches followed by a second half consisting of a couple of junior heats then 3 or 4 qualifying heats for a finale usually called the rider of the night final. We watched 18 or 19 heats for our couple of quid admission now for £16.00 we get 15 heats

yes and we had proper 2nd halves and all the fans stayed aswell :party:

can you name the team ??

Tom Owen, Ron Henderson, Brian Havelock, Robbie Blackadder, Joe Owen, Mike Watkin, Tim Swales. Phil Michelides came in about the time Mike Watkin was injured.

*Just to add, my first match I saw at Brough was vs Stoke, Mon 14 Jul '75 (Won 44-34). I'd seen 1 meeting in 1973 and 2 meetings in 1974 at Holker Street, Barrow. Tom & Joe had ridden for Barrow and were the only reasons I wanted to go to Brough!*

Here is one of my 1970s pages showing pictures of the lads. http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk/Newcastle%20Riders%20PArt2.htm I remember Hendo riding around practising starts before the meeting wearing a top hat. Can anyone else confirm that

And I can recall 'Gentleman' George Barclay riding around the Boldon Track at Sunderland Speedway, wearing a Top Hat and carrying a real size cardboard cut out of the F.A, Cup in 1973. :t:

was there any points/average limit's in the good old day's, or was it just a case of sign who you like if you can afford to pay them ???

cos I do seem to remember a 50pt limit (?), maybe late 70's/early 80's being brought in, and there was a big who-har about that and Newcastle had to ditch Tom Owen and Nigel Crabtree because of it,,,

I that was a hell of a team

I think the all conquering Diamonds team of 1982 with Bobby Be a ton at reserve and effectively 7 heat leaders lead to the points limit starting. I remember Joe Owen and Rod Hunter averaging about 11 each that year. Incredible septet

if we had that team now we'd clean up no prob

£330 for a season ticket after losing money (due to lack of fixtures) on this years ticket! 4 season tickets down next season, well done. Normal admission and groupons for me if i bother.

Agree Gaz,lost on two this year, hope the promotion will look at something to compensate those renewing.

The funny thing is the promotion knew they had charged to much and have set the prices at the same rate!! If you look at the prices of other tracks season tickets ours are far to high going off the amount of matches you could end up with, we only got 21 this season (with a couple of groupons and the Peterborough match included).

we lost out on the ko cup as we got a bye straight into the quarter final,, but I reckon if we'd kept anton and Christian we would've had a better chance of trophy's,, a mean king done good so the promotion got that right but we were not strong enough at reserve home and away for the whole seas'n bui ihe top 5 would've coped,, when mills came in it got a little better but when he got hurt we were rely'n on guest reserves which proved to much.......... I hope we can get a solid reserve in from the start next seas'n and a number 1 and 5 so we can at least get a 4_2 on the road in heat 13 rather than a 5_1 against us
