Berwick 2015

He never!

He was only beaten once by a Newcastle rider in a race he finished against them at Berwick

He "took the piss" by prearranging Ollie Allens season ending injury, Barkers own injury that wiped out half his season and then the goings on with Lambert....no wait, that's insanely far fetched

BEN BARKER:

DixonBuildingBandits' boss John Anderson has issued the following statement:
"Ben Barker was at Shielfield last Saturday after having been back on his bike practising at Redcar that afternoon, which came as a total surprise to us".
"We were completely unaware he had already finalised a deal with Peterborough to resume racing".
"Ben knew that, when he was fit his place would be available here at Berwick but felt joining the Panthers afforded him less travelling after his injury and offered more fixtures by the end of term to earn more money".
"Given we had no chance of play-off, this influenced his decision. We only learned on Tuesday night this week that in fact he was going to the Panthers, on loan -- Peterborough did not contact us over the matter at any time".
"Once he was taken out of our team (and Ben himself told us he felt his season was over) his registration returned to his parent club Coventry who had loaned him to Berwick for the 2015 season. We were aware other clubs had thought of him but the decision to return to racing and with another team was purely Ben’s".

Seems strange

Why would you need to put out a statement about a rider joining another club who

1. you've dropped

And

2 . isn't your rider anyway

The long winded statement could have been

Bens gone to Peterborough because they've got more meetings left than us

Looking forward to statements in the future regarding other riders who used to ride for us and don't belong to us joining other clubs

As soon as Berwick returned his registration to Coventry Barker became a free agent so was free to sign for another club, though out of decency you would've thought he could've mentioned he was returning to racing to the Berwick promotion last Saturday.

Mathias has been a bit of a gem, I really like the look of him and along with Tommy and Kev would be the first names on the team sheet, that's if we are running of course

Rob Godfrey said that he hoped that Thomas Jorgensen would be back at EWR next season................and then slightly too late said 'If we are running'.

I suspect they will take their place in the 2016 PL and, providing they get a decent team in - because that is what led to the drop in attendances, 5 out of the first 6 home meetings being defeats - see no reason why they shouldn't do OK. Rob has already said they will switch to early Sunday evening.

The thing is Scunny is the best of example in Britain of giving fans what they want- excellent racing, good presentation and no unnecessary delay.

So why the crap crowds and therefore the "is it worth running next season" quote - if its that good?

Haven't been there myself, but speaking to Berwick fans last night who had been there on Friday night, Scunthorpe isn't the most prosperous of areas and is suffering badly at the moment and the track is out of the town centre. Just what they had picked up from speaking to locals.

Isn't the issue that:

1. Barker was loaned to Berwick - for the whole of the 2015 season - therefore not contractually available to be loaned to other Prem clubs including Peterborough

2. Barker wasn't so much "dropped" by Berwick - rather wasn't it Barker who effectively dropped himself of his own volition by declaring to Berwick that his season was over due to injury - so on that basis Berwick should surely have first refusal upon Barker's return to fitness. In the wider world if a worker phones in "sick" for the week or the month or whatever and part way through there is some miraculous recovery surely it doesn't give the worker freedom to just swan off and instead work for somebody else. The worker would surely have to go through the proper channels and follow proper procedures of such as giving notice or asking permission or the like.

3. It seems to me Barker has misled Berwick and/or ridden roughshod over proceedings, i.e. he's either misled Berwick as to the extent of his injury to begin with - and which was the only reason Berwick 'dropped' him (they do say in their statement that Barker knew and was made aware that upon his return from injury his place would still be there), or alternatively if Barker didn't mislead Berwick re his initial estimate of his injury and he's had some better than expected recovery (which is of course to the good) then surely Barker should have had the decency to at least consult with Berwick and discuss it with them first - rather than just swanning off elsewhere without so much as a 'courtesy call' phone call. The Berwick statement does appear to show that Barker did exactly that - no consultation with Berwick whatsoever, which doesn't seem to me to be morally right at all. And it may also be a breach of Barker's loan terms / contract.

Something doesn't smell right with this and it seems as if Berwick are right to feel aggrieved and right to issue the statement in all of its explanatory detail - it does appear as if Barker has conducted himself very poorly on this one.

Frustrating that Alex can score 9 pts in Sweden as was the case Thursday past, then come Saturday completely different rider.

Barkers injury diagnoses and the length of absence from the rider himself was that season was over, at the point, and armed with that information it seems Berwick handed back his registration to Coventry. Thankfully Barker recovered quicker than expected and obviously declared himself fit to return and as his registration was back with his parent club, and they couldn't or didn't want him in their team he was free to sign for anyone, which he did with Peterborough.

What's worse is that the riders who he was riding with/against was a much better standard of riders to that of Shielfield park last night, he clearly doesn't want to be here so why bother
