Berwick 2015

Recommended Posts

At this point in the season, you are correct, in terms of average.

I don't think there has been a transfer fee (to my knowledge at least).

I don't think describing him as a cast off was particularly accurate.

Whoever the team manager is at Scunny made a bit of a slip letting him go.

Thomas's last 7 scores: 11, 10, 16, 13, 11+2, 16, 14+1,

Not bad, eh?

I think you will find Thomas asked to leave Scunthorpe. There is no point in keeping a rider who doesn't want to ride for the club.

As previously posted if circumstances had worked out differently Jorgensen may have been a Tiger at Sheffield, thankfully he ended up at Berwick and has been arguably Berwick`s best rider this season. Hopefully he will be with us for more than one year.

The manager at scunny didn't let him go he asked to be released because he wanted to improve himself.

He was approached by several teams and chose Berwick.

When I asked him why Berwick, knowing his form riding there he said, improving himself meant learning to

ride tracks he had previously had trouble with.

I think that says a lot about the mindset of this young man.

I wanted Bellego to do a similar thing and go to a smaller track than Sheffield improve himself too.

Will Ben Barker walk again? Apolagies I knew he had gone to a Hospital closer to home which is great for him...

But I didn't read a synopsis of his condition?

It's a shame Barker wasn't squared away logistically because coupled with Vissing, that could have been a potent Top 2 for anyone

So Seb Alden is the man to turn Berwick's fortunes? Bellego also been mentioned....

Neither name fills me with confidence that they will anything other than consistently inconsistent. Both of them have buggered off when it suited or a better offer came. I'm not sure why Berwick fans think erotic thoughts about Seb Alden, yeah he can beat 2nd strings by half a straight but so could 6-7 point man Lee Complin. We need race winners ideally

I feel bringing new assets in is the right thing to do injuries can't be helped. I still think we'd have struggled for the playoffs with a full 7 and knocked out by the Rebels in the cup. If John decides to go again next year he will have Mattias and Nando on realistic averages which will help ten fold with team building. I'd really like to see Ritchie Worrall as a Bandit I think he's our type of rider and I think he will do the job Ben Barker failed to do.

In fairness to Barker he was on fire in his first meeting before unfortunately breaking his hand. Upon his return he probably came back too early as well as being hampered by machine issues. His scoring and form was beginning to pick up prior to his injury.

Do agree that Worrall would be a great rider to have in the side. Always performs well at Berwick and generally pretty good everywhere.

Richard Hall`s scoring recently has been hampered by broken ribs after crashing in Marmande.

Wonder why this was not made public?

He did blow an engine as well did he not?

Well whatever happens next year, won't really matter to you will it? because you don't even go!

I think your point about Coty and Thornblom being new young assets and real averages for next season is spot on.

Alden, I like him a lot when he is on form, I think he puts too much pressure on himself and it has an effect on his performance at times.

I think he we had Barker and Vissing for the full season we'd have easily made the playoffs.

Couldn't make Saturday as on holiday (did the new signing show potential?)

What are your views on using guest's for Barker and Vissing (r/r for Hynek) if you say we would have made the playoff's.

Do you think that would have made us any stronger?

Could we have introduced the 2 new signing's together therefore getting rid of r/r (hold Fernando back until we have Mathias)

I like the idea of having 2 new assets for next season.

Any word on the 1st 2 Saturday's in August (meeting's). Will need to check the price for the next visit as will have been a while. :drink:

How do attendances stack up to say 10 years ago? I first visited Berwick in 2005, when crowds were regularly approaching the 800 mark

Looking at Hall`s posts on other social media it appears he only found out the full extent of his injuries recently.

Yes Hall has been experiencing some expensive mechanical issues of late.

Can't say for definite but I would say crowds well down from those days. If I had to guess I would say on average 400-500 a week. Saturday was probably the biggest crowd of the season, but a large proportion of the crowd were from Edinburgh. That is another factor in the crowds getting smaller, is the number of away fans travelling. Back in 2005 even southern teams would bring a bus load if they were on tour. Very few fans can afford to travel to away meetings now. Costs and no doubt too many rained off meetings have put them off.

Crowds are definitely on the wane at most tracks. Glasgow are probably the exception due to the massive influx of new money, but even that will probably tail off.

Your away fan comments are spot on. I've drastically cut down on away trips, mainly due to the costs involved. Rye used to have a Northern tour to Edinburgh/Berwick/Glasgow every year, but that's no longer running. You could guarantee 50+ Rockets fans at Berwick, but I doubt they'll be more than half a dozen there on Saturday

Those Berwick fans who would like a trip down memory lane might want to have a look at the years gone by section of this forum, there might be something of interest for you.
