Agree, but that does not excuse the fact, that the promotion of speedway is poor here, and could be massively increased with little effort

Genuine question, to a businessman, what sort of promotion work do you think would get more people through the gates? Leaflets throughout the town? Reduced admission? Adverts on local radio? Wonder what the best way to get your message out there with the minimum budget.

Berwick surely have to be one of the club who have gone to extra length to promote their clubproduct = feathers in the cap

I feel supporting your club is more of a pick and choose your meetings as opposed to going every week religously.

Would be interested to do a survey of Berwick fans who post here and see how many are regular or sporadic attenders...

Good/Bad I think it shows change in a Speedway fans mentality.

Certainly the most effective method is postering the region, Berwick Rangers produce a simple fixture list for the whole month with their matches for that month. It's not fancy yellow gold A4 with black print, it's in every where, pubs, chippies, caravan sites, in fact anywhere and everywhere that will display it.

It's no good promoting the club to the people who already attend, they do a good job in keeping the converted up to date, announcements at speedway, the newsletter via e.mail etc.,etc... They fail completely when it comes to getting the message out out to the rest of the world.

spot on Taffy the simple idea of an A4 sheet that BRFC do telling the un converted what's happening is a simple and effective idea

Also get someone down to the holiday camps handing flyers out on a Saturday

Perhaps with a reduced admission cost for families or a voucher for money off at the food & drink outlets?

This could be a huge untapped market in the summer months when Berwick is swelled by holidaymakers. Get around Berwick, Haggerston, Eyemouth holiday camps and even if its free or heavily discounted admission get as many of the tourists through the gates as possible.

I don't know if the club promotes at these sites just now, but it could pay dividends to get a couple of riders, a bike, a DVD of some of the races and hand out some flyers.

Why don't they get an Aeroplane with a banner attached to it saying 'Speedway tonight 7pm' and fly over the tweed.

Berwick have tried most things to try and increase the crowd on a regular bases, sadly most haven't worked, cheaper admission etc. Sadly it might just be that the rest of the World isn't that interested in going to watch speedway anymore.

I fear you may be right. Once you lose support it's very difficult to get em back. It's the same everywhere. Don't stop trying though.

So, the regular TV coverage doesn't count then???

They do put banners on the railings in Berwick, apart from FIM type meetings, posters are pretty well non existant. The Bourne Leisure camps do try and keep the 'Happy Campers' locked in, so if they would not put up posters I would stick posters up in the access points, the rest of the caravan sites would be no problem.. As for aeroplanes, sadly we lost the Berwick Airport a few years ago.

Berwick Rangers average attendance is about 450 people, it doesn't really show a return on the promotion.

How do you explain that kind of promotion to people who turn up every week and pay the standard admission?

The unfortunate thing is that Saturday is normally a changeover day, too late for those leaving, too early for those arriving.

In general yes, but the 2 big sites have done Friday to Monday & Monday to Friday for the last few years now.

So, the regular TV coverage doesn't count then???

Who on holiday watches the local news, again news coverage informs the ones that are already informed

There was an airport at Berwick? Where was it and when did it close?

These people are already attending, trying to suggest ways of increasing the attandances.
