Berwick 2015

Yes, And they would appear to have taken their, F##k the club ! We only support the riders attitude with them !

2012 Group came about due to Lee Complin asking for sponsorship for the 2012 season, a group of fans although not financially rich decided to get together and put in a small affordable amount each month into a account from their own pockets to help.

This group of fans decided that it would be benificial to help all the team with what little money was available. The first 2 seasons Lee, then in 2013 Ricky were the main benefactors with the rest of the team receiving a token amount, until last season when all the riders received the same. Also after Ricky's tragic accident the group played a big part in rasing funds for him to the tune of over £15.000 due to the sale of wristbands which was speeded up with the support of the promotion.

As regards f**k the club attitude, when ever the group has been approached regarding sponsorship for big meetings we have whenever possible always supported the request, e.g., sponsoring Fence Fund, heats for Ben Fund, under 21's GP meetings etc.

Finally the 2012 Group are in no way in competition with the BSC although as already mentioned some group members are on the BSC Committee. Although both seperate groups, the goals are the same

Quite true in fact if it hadn't been for the Supporters Clubs through the years helping any of our promotions at Berwick, current or previous, or the small sponsorship scheme Berwick Speedway might not be here today.

The supporters club worked hand in hand with the promotion before they decided to change the rules

Fair points raised there -- but if one really wants to help out 'just the riders' you can slip any of them the odd tenner in the stand after any match, no need to join a supporters group to do it.

Again, if you are worried about the promotion not being able to balance their books and closing down (perish the unthinkable thought) one could become an associate sponsor, or -- if that were too steep, as it might be for many -- just buy an extra fiver, or tennersworth, of 50% draw tickets each week, no need to join the VIP Club to pump a bit of dough into the club coffers.

All personal choice, and nobody need feel a need to be cajoled, or bullied, into 'taking sides'. The all-important thing must surely be that the Bandits enjoy an entertaining, hopefully-successful 48th term of trading -- and can come back, all bills paid, in 2016 for another one, and many more thereafter..

It looks as though some of the suggestions in this post should be considered.......

To clarify some misunderstandings: This is from the notes of last nights AGM read out By Jean Foster.

"This season there have been some changes from Berwick Bandits Speedway Club Ltd that have introduced some proposed changes to Berwick Bandits Supporters Club, we do not want anything hidden and we want you all to know what has gone on in the last couple of months.

In November our Treasurer Diane Leighton came to us and asked if the supporters club could give the speedway club financial help, the committee members were reminded that the speedway club had already received £2000 at the start of the season and when the £2000 was given to them it was stipulated that no further funding would be given in 2014. The committee took a vote and it was 9 to 4 against the club receiving anymore funding in 2014, but immediately after the AGM in Feb 2015 funding for the promotion would be discussed, as it always is.

Our Treasurer Diane came to us in our next meeting in December and told us that we would no longer be doing the 50/50 draw, this was now the promotions, and we wish the club the best of luck with the 50/50 draw. Then the club launched their VIP Package, with Pits Visits, Centre Green Visits and the chance to present the Rider of the Night with their Prize, many of the selling points of the VIP Package were things that the Supporters Club had offered to their members, with the permission and help of the Promotion. Consequently we The Supporters Club asked a member of the Management of the Club if we could presume that we would no longer be offering the supporters club members pit visits, centre green visits and we would no longer be required to do Rider of the Night? The answer came back that we presumed correctly, we wouldn't be offering any of the listed benefits to our members. We sincerely wish the promotion the best of luck with their VIP Package.

We have worked very closely with the promotion over the past years and whenever they have asked for help we have given it, especially financial help, but in November, it seems that our delay in giving financial help has resulted in us losing the 50/50 draw and the benefits of pit visits, centre green presentations and we are no longer required to do Rider of the Night Awards.

it seems to me that this is a very very childish action from the promotion because they couldn't get their own way they should have respected the democratic way that the supporters club are duty bound to act on with this request for more funds and also respect the result of the vote

I might be wrong here but it seems because of this the promotion are setting out to destroy the supporters club by removing one of it ways of raising funds with the 50/50 draw and also discouraging others to join the supporters club by removing privliges such as pit vists

They need to remember the supporters club contains people who pay money to watch speedway don't bite the hand that feeds you

I am certain the 'Official Berwick Speedway Supporters Club' wil continue to support the club in every way they can, as they have done for many years. On the subject of the 50/50 draw, this always was the clubs to raise extra monies for the club, it was only when the current promotion took over that they gave the 50/50 draw to the supportrers club, my opinion is, this should never have happened, as it was a way of controlling the supporters club in their decision making.

If the money raised is going to the speedway club what difference does it make where it comes from?

I think the point is, why upset the very people who have worked so hard in supporting the club, not just in raising much needed funds, but organising events like 'The Hall Of Fame', End Of Season Dance, and so much more, they are the same people who organise the away trips, be it a jaunt down the road to Newcastle, or, The Southern Tour. These people nedd a pat on the back, not a slap in the face, I am pretty sure they are adult enough to let it go over their head, and continue as always. Strangely they are the same people who give their time freely to sell the 50/50. toil over the drunlen guests in hospitality, work in the chuck wagon aqnd so much more.

Meaning that the Supporters' Cub have decided to stop helping the promotion?

In which case.....

No it most certainly does not
