emilali
From here, I think Berwick's announcement of the VIP Club is sound business sense. That the Bandits run at a loss, propped-up financially by their directors, is well known -- they have this in common with virtually every other speedway in Britain. Their direct fund-raisers this term -- associate sponsorships, and now the VIP scheme and other direct-income streams -- must be absolutely necessary as they move into their 48th season, not least without a main sponsor as yet. Without ideas like the VIP Club, the prospect of there not being a 49th season must be very, very real. Our friend Screm posted yesterday that it is a voluntary matter, if supporters want to join it they can, if not they don't have to. Which is absolutely correct. Without enough funding to maintain the budget, the club will die, and if ideas such as the VIP Club are being planned by the promotion, then full marks to them for seeking every avenue to keep it alive. For people who are already a member of the supporters club, why would they want to be joining this VIP scheme Mr Barry?

I agree, it seems to be a pretty good deal for £20: but then we all know what I think about £20 It's a positive way of offering something extra and helping to support the club so we can see the 50 years landmark.
crescent girl
It sounds great, until you read the small print Small print has no surprises, and I'd heard whispers there will be even more benefits announced shortly. C'mon lad, you've fathered a new wee Bandit and are on this thread so much more than Rye's, we know whose side you're on these days!

bigeddiechek
Kind of off the current topic of discussion, but how good a signing is Ben Barker? Regardless of the differing (yet valid) views on the structure of the team, he's one heck of a signing and certainly has caused a lot of excitement offline in the real world. comet49
I'd say he's a great signing for Berwick. He maybe hasn't progressed as much as expected though, I remember him coming to DP with Stoke and him giving Nermark a good race, maybe not the greatest gater but all out trier and a "bums on seats" man. Not popular with away fans, spices up the atmosphere.
bigeddiechek
Finished 3rd in the British Final and was 1st reserve for Cardiff GP. Not a bad signing for a wee place like Berwick I'd say!
Robinh88
should achieve sub 9... he has been one of the stand out visitor to berwick since 2008. there is a point his average may drop. but i think barker will give us a spearhead. correctly managed he and vissing could contribute big points at home. Don't think anyone would argue with the Barker signing, top PL rider on a top PL average, if he can maintain that average over the season that will give us a genuine out and out No1 and score lots of points in doing so. But Ben cant do it all on his own, so its important the other riders step up and back our No1 up.

Barker is agood signing but if we bring Jake in on a 7 it negates the point of having an out and out No1 (unless Jake hits the ground running) which is a big gamble.Barker Vissing Doolan and Jorgensen are a decent top 4 but it will be difficult to accommodate them all if Jake is a 7.would make us weak at reserve Imo.
scotchopper
I don't know if i am missing something but if Jake comes in on a 7.00 average Berwick would be over the points limit. Add 7 to the other 5 riders gives you 40.84 so not even a 3 point rider would fit for the 7th rider. so if he isn't a 5 then berwick need 2 more riders. That particular can of worms was opened a while ago, seems Berwick are resting their hopes that Allen will declared a 5pt assessed average, and if he is then happy days, if of course he is declared a seven then Berwick will need to get the calculator out to accommodate him and drop riders that have already been signed.
