If so, Adam Ellis is a no-go, quite apart from the ridiculous travel schedule signing for Berwick would impose. Move on. Paco Castanga would be the one I would go for, I know he is keen to find a PL place and is not as much of a gamble than others. Problem is, how many Saturday nights would he miss due to Italian Champs, Under-21`s and the like. Far, far too many Saturdays.. I take it in that case that he has at least been looked at, could the club put out a news letter saying how proud they are about Castagna racing in such high pedigree meetings, they normally do to cover other riders, but I agree any rider missing lots of Saturdays is no good or indeed any Berwick meetings, especially if we don't get a guest so he may be a no go. How many "Saturdays off" would that entail? Whatever the advantages (gaining a club asset, keeping in his daddy's good books and any points the lad would score) may be, the regular absence of a rider who would only be compensated by r/r (unless he's not even good enough to be in the 1-5, which makes signing him pointless in the first place) on the occasions that a facility would even be available, makes Paco an unlikely target for the Banditos. Berwick seem to be doing the right thing, waiting on a definative ruling on the Australian's average from the meeting between BSPA and visa people (when?) while presumably holding a few other cards close to their chest in case the end-result goes against them. You are correct, but by losing only one rider a 6,91 or a 7.09 rider, leaves you with either 6.75 or 7.57, that would leave the team desperately weak at the bottom end with three riders under 4.00 ave. That the Bandits run at a loss, propped-up financially by their directors, is well known -- they have this in common with virtually every other speedway in Britain. Their direct fund-raisers this term -- associate sponsorships, and now the VIP scheme and other direct-income streams -- must be absolutely necessary as they move into their 48th season, not least without a main sponsor as yet. Without ideas like the VIP Club, the prospect of there not being a 49th season must be very, very real. Our friend Screm posted yesterday that it is a voluntary matter, if supporters want to join it they can, if not they don't have to. Which is absolutely correct. Without enough funding to maintain the budget, the club will die, and if ideas such as the VIP Club are being planned by the promotion, then full marks to them for seeking every avenue to keep it alive.
