The "fans Trophy"

SCB

Recommended Posts

So a few people have moaned a fair bit now that there's no recognition for the team that finishes top of the league so shy don't the fans do something?

All that's needed each season is a modest trophy and 10ish medals for each of the riders in the team. £100 a year would be enough. Wouldn't take many fans to put in a small donation. At the end if the season (or once a team has finished top of the league) a group of fans could be picked/selected (by ballot if too many) to award the trophy.

As for the name I like "the fans trophy" but we could use it to remember Lee Richardson or any other rider that's agreed.

It's probably a little too late for 2014 (but still possible) but we could do something for future seasons.

If the fund makes too much money we could donate it to the SRBF.

It's not up to the fans to provide a trophy that the powers that be should be doing.... End of :)

But why should they? There argument is that finishing top of the league doesn't matter. It's the play-offs that matter. This thread and it's lack of interest support them.

A "fans trophy" is a nice idea and one which I'm sure the receiving riders would appreciate. But it is the responsibility of the Leagues to honour teams. Rugby League has the League-leaders Shield...why not Speedway?.

I like the idea SCB, I particularly like the idea of a trophy bought by the fans, for something we feel strongly about, I'd rather it was a perpetual trophy and something pretty special but that is down to us.

I totally understand when people say it should be bought by the promoters but at the end of the day the fans are the only consistents, promoters and riders come and go but we are always there, well some are haha.

How can we make this happen, if people want it to?

I would put a few quid in.And if someone went around the EL tracks others would aswell no doubt.

But some people don't want the hassle of sorting it and doing it,i am one of those aswell. But I would be quite happy to donate.

Why don't the promoters get off of their collective backsides, go out and find a sponsor.

Oh, hang on, they couldn't even find a sponsor for (what they want to call) the League Champions now the one's that devalued the League have stopped so what chance have they got of finding a sponsor for what is merely a qualifying competition. After all, do qualifying group winners get a trophy in major competitions like football's World Cup or Champions League?

Riders ride for MONEY and major trophies and ego!

Just Mercenary professionals in the main (Thats not a problem as long as we remember that)

If people want to donate for a trophy it should be for amateurs or juniors, they race for practice, fun and maybe with the chance to turn semi pro!

Give them the incentive

Shouldn't it be called the Fans' Trophy (with the apostrophe)?

With the interest generated plus the acknowledged tightness of posters on this forum, I think it would be more accurate if the apostrophe was before the "S"and not after it.

The complete lack of interest in this suggest nobody cares who finishes top. So next time so stuck in their ways moaner comes on here saying the play-offs are crap we'll have to point them to this thread :D

As, probably, the main moaner on this Forum regarding the 'Play Offs' I would like to make a suggestion.

Why not have a Trophy and a Name for the Team finishing TOP!! I would make so bold as to suggest that you could call the Trophy the League Championship Trophy and that you could call the Winners (those at the TOP) the League Champions as indeed they are.

Then you could have the 'Play Offs', you could have a Trophy called the 'Play Off' Champion's Trophy the Winner of the Competition to be called the 'Play Off' Champions, as indeed they would be. They could NOT be called League Champions if they have NOT won the League, to call them that would be a misnomer.

Problem solved - but - not in Speedway.

The solution is simple really.
