No more Sunday afternoon racing

Panthers have shelved afternoon racing due to problems preparing the East of England Showground track.

The club have staged three Sunday meetings so far this season with 1pm, 2pm and 3pm start-times.

They have all been affected by a slicker-than-desired surface which club bosses feel have hampered the home advantage of their team.

From now on Sunday meetings will begin at 5pm, starting when they entertain Rye House in the Premier League on April 26.

Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “We haven’t been able to get the amount of water required into the track.

“It means we haven’t had the home advantage we need or the exciting racing the supporters are used to.

“Pushing the start-time back gives us more time to prepare the track in the way we want it.”

Well reading the comments of Sunday afternoon visitors on the match threads, I thought that it was exciting racing?

Yes it was, apart from the Ipswich match which wasn't so good as the track looked overwatered and their riders weren't too keen, with the exception of Danny King and Cameron Heeps who got stuck in. Got me worried for a minute when I read 'No more Sunday afternoon racing.' But scrolling past the photo I see it's now 5pm which is still okay for me but I wouldn't be so keen if it was 7.30pm as I don't really like driving on the A47 in the dark.

Yes and we have Allen to replace.

9.23 to play with for a number 1 before the averages change

unless the MC choose to do the right thing and give MPT and Lambert new averages in line with their performances to date as part of any redeclaration in line with the regulations.

The rule is there is just needs to be applied.

And there's the rub. As a local and regular over many years, the Ipswich track and entertainment is what I want to see (Well I want to see top level but that's a different issue!). It wasn't perfect but was there to be ridden, and the idea was to hope that the opposition would realise what a visit to the EoES means, which isn't a nice ride round on a slick, dusty, billiard table. There are those good enough to ride it irrespective, as you mention, and if the others want to do a "Rob Lyon" then they can chalk it down to experience. 5pm is better but not until Sunday football has finished. 6.30 would have been my choice for a month or so, then maybe 5.30 if need be.

Why should a 17 year old Brit lads average be changed?

the regulation is not written differently because of a riders age or nationality. Its about riders without an established match average by the time of May 1st or at the time of a team redeclaring.

When is the deadline before the new averages kick in ?

I think its meetings upto and including the 21st with the new figures active from May 1st.
