Peterborough Panthers 2015

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't want and didn't't suggest home "tanking", home wins and entertainment being the priority - can't afford silly home losses or delays and abandoned meetings like last season.

Get a team of racers and run meetings without unnecessary delays.

You mean like the 2nd half of 2013 before Frost & Mahoney decided that speedway just wasn't for them?

Yes, all be it I can't remember if it were 2013 or any other year/period!

The professionalism shown by Rick and Julie had to be admired.

Too often last season it felt like the track staff/other staff had only just turned up and left everything to the last minute. Never recall having those feelings with Rick & Julie.

Not sure what the reason was but so often last season, I and the group I sit with were desperate for meetings to finish - they took too long to run with horrible voids in between races. If tapes go up at 7.30pm the meeting should be finished by 9.00pm.

Also if there is going to be a long delay to repair an air fence take the interval early! Don't have us sit around for 30 minutes, see 2 more races then take an interval!

Better jump off the horse now!

The man who spearheaded the successful fight for Peterborough Panthers survival admits the real test still lies ahead.

North-East businessman Ged Rathbone joined forces with long-serving co-promoter Trevor Swales to ensure the city club can continue to race at Premier League level in 2015 after hitting a £40,000 fundraising target.

The duo will now form a new-look management team and have high hopes of a successful future on and off the track.

Rathbone said: “We are over the moon to have reached the point where we can continue racing. I can’t stress how hugely thankful we are to the many people who helped our cause during the last few weeks. We would not be in this position without them.

“But we are well aware of the fact that the really hard work still lies ahead and that is proving we can run a speedway club.

“Our aims are simple - to operate as a break-even business while being successful and developing riding talent.

“Three-or-four years down the line we want to be able to look back and reflect on what a good decision it was to ensure Peterborough kept going.”

Rathbone became involved in the Panthers set-up last year due to his involvement as sponsor and mechanic of captain Ulrich Ostergaard.

But his love of speedway spans almost an entire lifetime after watching his first meeting as a four year-old.

By his early teens he was already acting as a mechanic for riders

He added: “I’m 46 years of age now and I’ve been in the sport for 42 of them. It has been a huge part of my life and I’ve always wanted to become involved in the other side of speedway.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to do that at a club which boasts one of the best set-ups in the Premier League and some fantastic supporters.

“I wouldn’t have got involved in just any club, but I felt that there was a cause worth fighting for at Peterborough.”

Yes but which one - Simon or Robert?

please not Simon - :o

It is continually difficult for me to accept that we are in the Second Division and do not aspire to higher, further many if not most seem quite content with this,.

cant see allen bunyan improvingyet

Bunyan spent all year getting his average down for 2015. There's a point at least of improvement there.

I think most Panthers fans are relieved to still have a team to watch. Would you rather the club had gone to the wall? Edited by Shads

I know I couldn't believe it!!

Plummers extensive vocabulary! :D

Ged's got to be having a word surely, doesn't want to get saddled with that? Hours of fun for us but there is only one supremo and it's not a grand as it sounds :D

Noun 1. supremo - the most important person in an organization

Someone tell Mr Plummer that there are plenty of alternatives!
