Peterborough Panthers 2015

Recommended Posts

Well it just goes to show the Panthers management were not going to give into Lamberts demands, it is wrong for a rider to ride for a club all season and then come the business end of the season to start asking for more money and in this case I am well informed that it was quite large increases Robert wanted.

Personally I think he is being advised poorly and will be interesting to see if Kings Lynn agree to his requests or if any other PL club are prepared to pay what he wants for the play offs.

As long as he is fit I think Barker could be a good signing for Peterborough and will help build good team spirit and I'm sure become popular with the fans.

By whom? That's rather a strong accusation not to source. Don't understand how he can demand more anyway? Surely it's a season long contract at the same pay rates? If that wasn't and the play-offs were additional and open to discussion, then what idiot agreed to that? My guess would be that availability and unreliability, especially at the busier business end, were more of an issue.

Let's be honest I very much doubt Lambert is the one asking for an increase, he's only young remember. I'd guess the people looking after him are running his finances and making the demands.

My sources tell me that they have just finished reading Aidy Ward's (Raheem Sterling's agent for those who don't know) book on how to win friends and influence people.

Respect to management for realising that no rider is bigger than the club no matter how good he is..and good riddance to a great rider but a pain in the arse. Whenever I looked in the pits I always thought he had too many people around him (mum, dad, girlfriend, amongst many others)..and He had no respect for premier league.

I'm not Barkers biggest fan but he is a team man and that's what we need so welcome Ben..you will be my hero if u win us the league!

Panthers ditch Lambert in favour of Barker

Play-off chasing Peterborough Panthers have axed teenage star Robert Lambert . . . and replaced him with top Premier League performer Ben Barker.

The city club announced the surprise move, which will go through once receiving British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) clearance, late tonight (August 18).

Panthers chiefs have refused to go into detail about the reasons behind the switch.

A club statement claims the decision has been made ‘in the best interests of the club’.

It stated: “It goes without saying that we thank Robert for his contribution to what we hope will be a memorable season for the club.

“We are also in no doubt that he will go on to fulfil his potential and become a top rider in the future, but right now we have made this decision with the best interests of the club in mind.

“We will make no further comment on the decision and now wish to focus fully on the crucial meetings ahead.”

Great Britain international Lambert has only appeared in just over half of Panthers’ fixtures in his debut season in the second tier due to injury, illness and fixture clashes.

It means his last act for the club was tumbling out of a home defeat at the hands of Premier League table-toppers Edinburgh 10 days ago.

New recruit Barker has been passed fit to return to racing after suffering back and neck injuries in a horror crash in the British Final in June.

He spent almost a month in hospital and was replaced by previous club Berwick which left the door open for Panthers to make their move.

The club statement continued: “We are delighted to have agreed a deal to bring one of the top performers in Premier League speedway to Peterborough.

“Ben is not only a very talented rider, he is also a hugely exciting one who has previously guested for us on a couple of occasions this season to great effect.

“His experience and knowledge will be big assets in the final weeks of the season and there is no doubt his arrival will boost our chances of battling for honours.

“We have six crucial meetings remaining in the regular season and the challenge for the riders is to finish in second place.

“We have a bit of ground to make up on Glasgow, but we have the meetings in hand and we have the quality to get results home and away.”

Barker arrives on a 7.55 average which puts him second in the club’s averages. He is in line for a debut when Panthers host Newcastle at the East of England Showground on Friday night (7.30pm).

Currently injured captain Ulrich Ostergaard now reverts to number one in place of the departed Lambert. King’s Lynn man Nicklas Porsing will guest in that position against Newcastle.

blah blah blah.............

This argument is now getting tiresome, apologies to other fans for the full half hour version, so I’m happy to accept an apology and we can move on.

Yes, very tiresome.

Lukas was quite right about Simon Lambert being one of our "top 3" riders, i.e. most important based on Panthers season overall. That was the context. The whole world - except you - knew what Lukas meant. And if you asked any Panthers fan who we'd miss most if they were out injured or whatever, Simon Lambert would definitely in the top 3 names they mention. I say that with confidence because every one of the couple of dozen Panthers fans that I know/chat to rates Simon L in the top 3 this season. You chose to be a smartar5e and pick Lukas up on it because, according to you, "top 3" can only ever mean the highest 3 averages in the team at any given time. Well yeah, if that's the context - but it wasn't. By the way, I'm sure none of us need a lecture from you about averages, how they work and their significance. I certainly don't.

You keep wriggling if you want, but I can't be ar5ed any more.

So would a lot of us! How easy it must for certain people to put us down for wanting what is best for our team, when it is not their team being treated with what appears to be disdain by a rider.

I realise injuries happen it is the nature of the game,I respect 100% what the riders risk every time they go out on track,I think our promotion have done a brilliant job this year, facing injury after injury and still pulling through...but...as a paying fan,I am entitled to an opinion, seven Simon Lamberts or seven Robert Lamberts..I know which I and most of my friends would pick! I just hope Simon is back with us next year.

Indeed.

Would rather have dedicated riders than one who thinks he is better than the club however good he is. Welcome Ben.

:t: It's a safe bet that all Panthers fans think the same.

Ok I don't want you to squeal any longer so I'll accept that as your apology :t:

Lambert doesn't want more money, he's currently being paid less than every other Premier League number one

If I was doing the same job as others, I would expect the same pay.

I have no idea what he earns per point, but if you take his earnings per season so far,you are of course (for once) quite correct,as in any job, you actually have to do the work to get the pay.

If I was doing my job and never turning up I would expect the sack.

You have that data at hand do you? Excellent. Put the list up then, it'd make interesting reading.

That also indicates that you think you know what the undisclosed problem is, if it isn't money. So do tell. I'm sure that we'd be interested in that as well.

..it wouldn't surprise me if he demanded more money as he's asking for someone to buy him a new helmet on Facebook!.. Looks like he got taken out of school to soon and is being badly managed to me..shame as such a talent.

I saw that and found it very strange. I would have thought that he'd be raking it in or have sponsors falling over themselves to help in such circumstances. It's all new to him though and he is only young. I'm sure that he'll shake off those around pdq and get more competent support in career terms.

Would he be able to ask for more money as he must of signed a contract for the 2015 season ,

maybe there was a clause inserted in the contract that gave him a pay rise if he achieved a certain average ,if so hope there was another clause that

stated he must ride in a certain percentage of fixtures thoughout the season, contracts can be very long winded and can easily be manipulated.

One thing concerning Ben Barker is the fact hes coming back from a nasty injury he may take time to get back to a certain level, then again he fits

perfectly with all the other Panthers riders this season who at some point have had a spell on the sidelines and comeback.

he could do a lot worse than get Mick Bratley in his corner.. ;)

I recall him being a great wing man for Hans Anderson when he was at the top of his game! :t:

I'll tread carefully here as I'm slightly suspicious of the post

However, it is a very good point and I did think the same sort of thing. I don't somehow see Bratters getting on with the Lambert posse (it'd end in tears, and not his), and he's more cocoa and slippers these days: but someone doing for Lambert what Bratters did for Andersen is just what he seems to need at this time.

From what I have been told by 3 different people including some very close to Peterborough promotion.

Is that Robert Lambert first approached both Peterborough and Kings Lynn for pay rises over a month ago,Even though he has signed and agreed his deals for 2015 he believes that as he was No1 at Panthers then they should pay him quite a bit more now and the same sort of thing at KL he has moved to be a heatleader wants more money.

The Panthers have said No like many other riders you will see the benefit of improvement in next years deals but team Lambert were unhappy about this and so the club have replaced him. Also as technically he is not withholding his services he can join another PL club I expect to see that move happen soon. Not sure what KL are doing yet

He does have someone as from next season Olly Allen
