SCB
If a rider comes in on an assesed average they should keep that average until they have acheived it. eg Pavalora started on a 7 but started this season on a 3. No doubt Konopka was the same!? You'd probably have to make it so any Brit riding in another pro league (Sweden, Denamrk and Poland) would also have to come in on a 5/7 too but tbh, I don't see that being a problem. SimonB
Pity they can't "help" out a young British rider As a matter of interest does anyone know if promotions still have to pay board & lodgings/rent for foreigners? That along with air fares/mileage must make foreigners more expensive. Must be cheaper to use a Brit or do they price themselves out of the market? Depends on the deal with the rider. Generally volunteers are found to provide free board and lodgings for the foreign based riders. We have had several staying over the years. So in effect foreign riders are subsidised, cos young Brits in the main don't get free board and lodgings Edited June 25, 2015 by Star Lady

mudflaps
RAFAL RACES IN Thursday June 25, 2015 PETERBOROUGH promoter Ged Rathbone is backing Polish ace Rafal Konopka to entertain the East of England Showground fans. The 22 year-old Polish ace has been drafted in at reserve by the Readypower Panthers and is scheduled to make his debut when they entertain Plymouth on Sunday (June 28) providing the move receives official British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA) clearance.Konopka has plenty of Premier League experience after spending much of the 2014 campaign and the opening half of the current season racing for Redcar.Rathbone has seen him in action in the North-East on a regular basis and believes he is capable of boosting Panthers' bid for title glory.Rathbone said: "I've seen plenty of him riding for Redcar and what you get from Rafal is entertainment and effort in every race."He is dedicated to his speedway and does everything he can to be successful in the sport. He is very excited by this opportunity and we will work hard with him to ensure he has the right machinery and set-up."Some people may question the move and see it as a gamble, but I feel he has the talent to do a job for us."Sometimes riders can do a bit too much and cost themselves points. That has definitely been the case with him at Redcar."We just need to calm him down and make sure he rides consistently to score us a few points."Konopka produced a best return of paid 12 points during his time at Redcar this season. That came in a late-April victory over Rye House. He replaces Ollie Greenwood, who has been released by mutual consent, in the Panthers side.Greenwood made a farewell appearance as Panthers pipped Glasgow 48-45 in a television thriller last night (Wednesday). http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/news.php?extend.2531

WembleyLion
No disrespect intended and he may well get better but from what I saw of Rafal Konopka last season he would have struggled at NL level. I have noticed an improvement this year but many British youngsters would have been delighted to have had the number of PL rides Rafal has had over the past two seasons. Something is very wrong here!

CaptainAudi
I actually think, with decent machinery under him, RK could be a fairly decent reserve. Also worth remembering he was seen as the senior reserve at Redcar, but won't be at P'Boro, so there is less pressure on him to perform. I'm disappointed its lost another British youngster a place, but maybe what OG needs is a confidence boosting spell back in the NL and start afresh next season in the PL, a year more mature and experienced. Will be interesting to see how RK settles in at the EOES.

I actually think with decent machinery, he could become more than a "decent reserve", he has something about him, he just needs the right help and guidance, Something he wouldn't/did'nt get at Redcar. You may be right, the track might suit him better once he's dialled in and if he's scoring good points at home, it could give him confidence to score points away as well. Will make a note to watch his progress from now until the end of the season. Edited June 25, 2015 by MonarchsMitchy
