Peterborough Panthers 2015

Recommended Posts

Baby Bjerre rode with an injury numerous times last season, & only missed a few matches near the end of the season. Think it is obvious why that happened.

Panthers 89, like the look of your team, but think Holder will live with his brother in Poole, & end up at Somerset. He might come in on a 7 point average as well.

Dickie Greer on Panthers: Go back to Friday nights

Peterborough speedway legend Richard Greer is desperate to see Panthers live on.

The club’s future has again been thrown into jeopardy by current supremo Mick Horton’s decision to walk away after only one season of a two-year leasehold deal.

And, with owners Rick Frost and Julie Mahoney already admitting they are not in a position to assume hands-on control again, buyers are likely to be needed to ensure Panthers race on in 2015.

Greer, one of the club’s originals for their 1970 debut season, is hopeful that will happen.

Speaking after Panthers’ 46-44 defeat at the hands of Edinburgh in the opening leg of the Premier League Cup Final, he said: “I’ve been in involved at Peterborough from day one.

“Rider, clerk of the course, machine examiner, meeting co-ordinator – you name it, I’ve done it for this club.

“I rode in the very first race of the first meeting and I hope I haven’t just watched the last one at home.

“I know the club has lost a lot of money this year, but I really hope a way can be found to keep it going.

“Mick tried to go back to regular racing this season, but a Tuesday night just didn’t work.

“Speedway is a family sport and we need to race at a time when the kids can come along – that’s Friday nights again like it used to be or at the weekend.

“I just hope the club carries on.”

Greer scored more than 2,000 points in seven seasons as a Panthers rider

Dropping to the Premier League was the start of he rot. Moreover whilst I accept that Mr Horton has let down the Frosts I also believe the demotion to Premier was pre planned leastwise Mr Frost had no intention of running this season at any time.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for you guys :approve: I know I'm lucky to still have my club security to a certain degree at King's Lynn, but I don't know what I'll do if I just have to stick to one local track again, as the racing at Lynn itself has been overrated for the past couple of seasons in my opinion  I certainly don't fancy regular visits to Ipswich instead! I've always enjoyed my visits to Peterborough in comparison. I just keep hoping that someone will purchase the club and they'll continue to race in 2015. I'll try and keep popping back in here to see what's happening. I'd actually vanished completely for a few weeks again and feel a bit out of the loop

READY POWER SPONSORSHIP DEAL...?

Yes, Frost has stated that he is still interested in Speedway but has not the time to get involved again, also the losses were small beer to him. Therefore do what he should have done before and get someone of integrity and competence to run it for him.

Where's the attraction in that for Frost? Have an expensive toy and employ someone else to play with it for you?

That is exactly what Frost once said "I can afford to indulge my hobby"

But if he was not involved himself then it stops becoming a hobby. He has already said he is too busy to run it. I enjoy fishing but I wouldn't buy all the equipment and pay someone else to do it for me because I was too busy. Where's the enjoyment in that for me? None.

He just did that to some extent with product returned severly damaged at half-time, along with, in Rick's words: "The club’s reputation has been damaged and that reflects badly on me and Julie." - so in answer to the question, getting back to a point where he has a saleable asset and can once again say: "we have regained our good name in speedway."

That should be enough?

Panthers Fans Forum: Plans for a rescue package

Trevor Swales is heartened by the response to his plans to put together a rescue package for Peterborough Panthers.

The long-serving co-promoter is ready to join forces with North-East businessman Ged Rathbone - the mechanic of skipper Ulrich Ostergaard who joined the clubs management team during the summer in a bid to keep Panthers racing in 2015.

They are close to finalising a date for a major fans forum (likely to be at the East of England Showground towards the end of October) at which they will discuss plans for the future and seek financial support.

And Swales revealed donations have already been pledged.

He said: Myself and Ged are working hard to get the date sorted for the fans event. It will be a huge night in the history of the club.

We need everyone who wants to see the club continue to be there. A poor turnout and it could be curtains, but we hope we dont find ourselves in that position.

The response to what were trying to do is already pleasing. Weve had a couple of financial pledges and that is very encouraging.

But there is obviously lots of work still to do and we want to hear from anyone who feels they can assist us in any way.

Swales is not aware of any other parties currently interested in taking over at Panthers who have raced every year since their inception in 1970.

He can be contacted on 07920 824092.
