arnieg
Application for a later end time goes to planning ctee of Swale Council on Thursday. report here: http://services.swale.gov.uk/meetings/documents/g1295/Public%20reports%20pack%2018th-Sep-2014%2019.00%20Planning%20Committee.pdf?T=10 Have to say I wouldn't be optimistic, tone of the report is very negative. SCB
But we were told an 8.30 curfew was fine. So why change it?
Hunty
Wasnt last nights curfew extended, a good way to test the waters!
blueherb777
The only way Kent Kings can move forward to is to get the curfew extended. I thought I read somewhere that the Leader of the Council was keen for the Stadium/Speedway to be a success to bring revenue into Sittingbourne. Time will tell. SCB
Just read the report and some of the complaints of locals. How are people allowed to lie? Surely planning officers have a duty to make sure no such false claims are made and can't just copy them into a planning application? Surely planning officers have a duty to make sure no such false claims are made and can't just copy them into a planning application? I was just going to say the same thing. Some of those NIMBY complaints are clearly dowright lies. And the report even admits that many of the complaints are due to a flyer which had been sent out full of lies. Don't think Kent have done themselves any favours by not complying with the acoustic barrier, but they also have a bit of history in winning appeals for extra concessions against the planning officers recommendation. incidentally, how did they run last night's meeting which didn't start until 7pm and can't have finished before 9pm? lucifer sam
Last night, they had special one-off permission from the council to start at 7pm and finish by 9.30pm. All the best Rob
arnieg
incidentally, how did they run last night's meeting which didn't start until 7pm and can't have finished before 9pm? They had permission from the council - last night's curfew was 9.30, but the meeting was over by 8.45. I imagine that the council noise team were out taking measurements, and that there will be an addendum to Thursday's report with any observations from last night. Bet some resi will complain about the dreadful racket at 9.15 on Monday evening

In fact the more lies and the more ridiculous they are the better. No easier way to win a court/tribunal decision than to expose your opponents case as untruthful, biased nonsense.

No need for the time and expense of appeals.
Mike.Butler
wondered why there was a police car outside the entrance when we left? they didn't seem bothered about all the cars parked on double yellows...maybe they were there to keep the protestors and fans apart..? Halifaxtiger
But surely it's easier to win in the first place if they're not allowed to lie. No need for the time and expense of appeals. You can't stop people being untruthful, particularly when it is in their interests to be so. What you can do is expose them as liars - and if you do you inflict significant damage their on their case because their word can be shown to be wholly unreliable. That means its worse than worthless in that it actually strengthens your position.
25yearfan
For a track that's situated in the middle of a large industrial estate, near a go kart track that runs 24/7 I believe, with a massive main stand that acts as a massive acoustic barrier with no houses in sight, its bewildering they have had such major issues about the noise! The fact that Kent get such good crowds when they run on such a non fan friendly racenight and time surely gives them great scope to try and make their business better. Surely the Council can see the speedway is good for the local area and one nights week speedway with about 15 minutes of noise isn't no inconvenience for anyone? Ideally a 7.15pm parade with the 1st race at 7.30pm with a time curfew at 10pm would suffice?
Wiseguy
I quite like the fact that Kent start at 6-30pm, means I can take the kids and they are still home by 9 for bed I know it's an issue for others who can't get their after work though

Brummie Kev
I remember one complait against the Brummies when we started back, this resident moaned that the noise was very loud on this wednesday night in question. This woman must of had super hearing as we were away at Kings lynn that night, daft cow. I also remember reading somewhere that there were people complaining that having speedway was increasing the amount of litter in the area. This is Perry Barr for godsake, hardly the cleanest of areas. Also when they were doing noise tests for the new silencer, the guy doing the tests in the back garden of one the nimbys properties phoned the stadium to let them know when they were starting, only to be told the meeting had started and they were on heat 3. that more or less sealed the deal for full planning permission. 25yearfan
Their has been many instances of NIMBY's ringing up to complaint about the noise from the speedway on a particular night when in fact there wasn't any! Most sad instance of "NIMBYism" is the one guy who raged a big campaign against the very popular Romford speedway in the early 1970's despite his son being a regular, succeeding in getting it shut down and then moving away from the area not long after. The Brooklands stadium where Romford raced was then demolished about 5-6 after speedway shut down! Sad and pathetic really cause if they looked at the bigger picture, they'd investigate how speedways run and respect the fact that an outlets is being created for people of all ages to indulge in a fully affiliated, controlled leisure outlet! Kent speedway at Central Park is in the middle of an industrial estate, not a housing estate. Its been a great success despite its odd midweek starting time! Allowed to grow and prosper it can be one of British speedway hotbeds which would greatly benefit the local area!
cityrebel
Romford speedway, I remember it well. Nice stadium, huge crowds and a scary track!
