Newcastle Diamonds V Glasgow Tigers Premier League Knock Out Cup Monday 15th September 2014 1st Leg

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe how quickly season 2014 has gone it's the middle of September already. The Diamonds could do with KO cup success as our season has not been one to remember. Hopefully we will get an aggregate win over the tigers otherwise our season is run!

Quarter. Winners meet Edinburgh in the Semi Final.

Just using your post as an example Steve but does this just show what a farcical state speedway fixture planning is in right now, we're in the middle of September and we are still waiting to produce a qualifier to make up the semi finals of a competition that started in May while their opponents for that semi have been in the position of having to wait weeks to find out who they will actually play?

And the League Cup (remember that? The so-called pre-season Comp?) Final has to be run yet!

The difficulty about this particular Quarter Final, is, of course, we are both Sunday tracks. We were going to run at Glasgow at 1.30pm and Brough at 7.30pm a few Sunday's ago, but the weather put paid to both matches. Hence the current situation (the 2nd leg at Glasgow is on Sept 28th., mainly due to the PLRC on Sun 21st).

It is a farce. As Newcastle got a bye, this is actually their first KO Cup match of the season. In mid September. Ridiculous.

Could of run a double header at Glasgow on 24th Aug against us and we could of done the same the next day at Brough....... Pleased we didn't though as Rose and Neilsen got injured and Mills had dodgy bikes

That was proposed but not accepted by our opposition.

agreed as they knocked us back on the double header I bet they wish they hadn't now ?? but the way the rest of our lads rode we'd have still gone through to the semi over the 2 legs even if it did mean a guest at short notice for simon.. so come this Monday hopefully that messers king ludvig lewis k and the king of diamonds ( robbo ) will get 45 to 50 points between them and a nice 8 to 10 from the reserves will do nicely to go back to Glasgow with

Even moreso then, dont understand why speedway cant organise specific weeks to run the cup ties in and if rain offs occur then ASAP afterward? :)

As long as the play-offs exist with a cut-off date for league fixtures to count towards standings they will always have precedence in the mind of the clubs. Maybe a similar 'cut-off' for cup fixtures would force so-called 'early season' comps to be run more sensibly. Sure I can remember us lifting the league cup in late July/August in the triple winning 2010? prior to play-offs.

Where's the logic in that?! <sigh> #britishspeedwayisbuggered-up

On that assumption Hettie the logic is probably in the same place that decided to start a cup competition in May yet have two protagonists waiting til Sept to actually be able to get cracking on it?

As far as I am aware, the draw for the first two rounds is made pre season so clubs can set a date for the first one at least, it is then left to the qualifying teams to set their own agenda for the rest, probably why the competition can never be completed before the seasons end, if, as I "suggested" qualifying teams were given a set timescale to arrange and race those ties we might not be in this position every year, that's all I'm saying!! ;)

Sorry, that was my own very poor attempt to suggest that doing anything sensible in this sport is beyond the BSPA.

They can't even REarrange a party in pub :-(

No worries, I had an inkling that was what you were doing, tho now I've extrapolated my own view on the subject I'm surprisingly happier with the outcome than I was before!! :D

Wonder if it's worth putting it forward, as a suggestion of course!! ;)

Weather pretty lousy at the min., but, according to MetOffice website it will improve early afternoon after light rain at about 1pm, with further rain not expected until around 10pm.

Any team news?

Millsy out, so another guest needed, but Robbo should be fit, I hear, which is good news.

Glasgow might have a change too.

If anyone can enlighten us it would be nice!
