Wolves V Leicester 1/09

Recommended Posts

If there was 500 people there last night I'd be amazed. Apathy and a total lack of atmosphere. I saw a group of fans near the tapes and one was on his phone texting furiously during heats, one staring at the floor and the others reading their programme - not one of them watching the action.

In 25 years of going to Wolves, last night for me was a new low. Sure we've had 2 wooden spoons in that time, but at least we had some entertainment in those seasons - its been dire this year.

Struggling to understand what you call entertainment.

You told us previously Pawlicki offered nothing to Wolves in his time there.. yet most think he was damn entertaining.

Last night the racing was excellent, indeed the poster above confirms racing wise one of the best meetings of the season... yet you claim last night was a 'new low' entertainment wise.

The "new low" for me was the poor crowd and the non-existant atmosphere - bearing in mind it was a local derby. I've stood inside Monmore when the atmosphere has been raucous - even when we were racing against poor opposition. Last night I saw people standing about in silence (some not even watching the racing) and a general feeling from some that they'd rather be somewhere else.

For the record, when I said Pawlicki offered nothing to Wolves, I was talking more about his lack of commitment to actually turning up. You could be the most exciting rider on the planet, but if I arrive at the track not knowing if he's going to be around, then I just can't warm to him.

Whatever people think of him as a rider, you cant deny his commitment - especially in recent weeks - has been unnaccptable.

I'll forgive your ignorance of the circumstances that meant I could afford to be there.

Good for you, hope you enjoyed it.

Personally I'd rather pay £17 to watch riders who want to be there, putting in maximum effort and providing some superb racing with passing in the vast majority of heats ....

than £17 to watch some big names not particularly interested and average to poor racing.

Its all choice. £16 is probably the maximum i would pay to watch PL standard racing.

To me it isn't about PL Standard V EL Standard racing.

ALL Leagues have good and mediocre meetings.

No doubt if i had gone i would have enjoyed the racing - that isn't the point.

Id pay £20 to watch a stronger EL, so for me its quality for money.

I wouldn't pay £17 for a PL match, and last night was nothing short of that standard.

All the talk before the meeting was of what a mess the sport is in,chewing the fat was like a punch in the stomach !Think last night peoples thoughts were on the big picture and not on the racing of which there were a few good races. Apart from shutting the gates cant think how the sport can get much lower, must admit didn't really follow the score that closely last night.

It's not just Wolves it's everywhere. Riders riding here there and everywhere. Am a Bees fan but the MJJ thing is about the final straw for me. It's even worse for a Friday track with double uppers constantly missing. You guys like Leicester never stood a chance without a draft big hitter. Farce track is a joke exacerbated by the race formula whereby heat 5 results in a home 5-1 half the time. It MUST go to Mondays only next year but with a lowish points limit in the first year and three English riders per team but no farce track!

I agree entirely. Sadly its the riders now who have all the power.

You must have a great deal of sympathy for PL fans then.. after all they pay almost as much to do just that each and every week.

It's not the standard, it's the fact that riders from your declared line up are constantly missing and not always replaced like for like. It's very doubtful I will go to Brandon next year (after 42 yrs) as the Elite League is a complete joke. But if the Brummies or M.K. run in the PL I might go there.
