Glasgow V Rye House Sunday 31st August Pl

Recommended Posts

Strange looking Tigers team? Danny Phillips at 1, RR at 3 and Luke Chessell at No 6. Missing three riders.

What the hell is going on ? How can they expect folk to pay £16 to watch that ? The alarm bells were ringing when i checked my e-mails for the " red alert " newsletter , and there was none

Just had a text , we have 3 guests and r/r , Rye House have 2 guests and r/r :shock::shock: the sport is sadly dying on it's arse . This is a sad day for Premier League speedway when it gets reduced to this farce .

Another one of these made up European championships. Looks like a home defeat against one of the worse teams in the league. Even Rye House's NL riders are more than likely going to out score our two looking at their respective averages. If Aarnio rides like he did last week 40 might be a good score

Jeez! Really feel for you guys.

Thankfully you keep going.

£16 is a lot, especially for two patched-up teams.

Have a real quandary now.

World Paint Drying Championships are taking place on Sunday in John O'Groats. Only 6 hours drive.

What to do?

Speedway or Paint Drying?

Paint Drying or Speedway?

Oh! What to do?

There we have it , a farce of a meeting , this really has reached farcical levels and has to stop . This should be a watershed moment , if foreign riders want to come here and ride , then they have to agree that the club they agree to ride for comes first . If they want to pursue personal glory in other competitions then they sign for a club that has a race night that these other considerations don't come into conflict with that club , or they just dont bother and indulge themselves on the continent every week .

If that results in a watered down Premier League , then so be it .

As fans we welcome 7 riders to our clubs at the start of every season , we want to watch them ride for our clubs every week ( barring injuries of course ) . What we dont want is what we have now , rider A cant be here as he's on long track duty , rider B cant be here he's riding in Poland , rider C has to ride in the Mongolian best pairs . Seriously what we have tomorrow is cheating the public . Rant over

This isn't the fault of Glasgow Speedway though they will pay the price with a very low crowd.

We have imported riders since time began and unfortunately if we were to avoid riders who have team places in the EL, Poland, Sweden, Long Track etc it would be NL speedway at Glasgow. Even mediocre PL riders can seem to pick up a place in Poland these days. Australian riders were once coveted as they didn't need to disappear off to their home championships mid season, though for many of them now they are racing in multiple leagues just like the rest.

British speedway for a while now has been lowest in the pecking order of European leagues, we no longer get the crowds or sponsorship we used to and this is the situation we find ourselves in. The BSPA have no bargaining power to change that, in demanding riders prioritise Britain though some of their decisions over the years would seem to have contributed to the decline. As it is IMO the lower half of the EL could easily join the Premier and not look out of place.

As for Sunday, its pretty unappealing, fans will vote with their feet and its Glasgow speedway that will suffer when they can least afford it.

Think i will keep my £16 in my hip pocket like many others I suspect, we have encountered many low's over the past couple off seasons and this debacle is right up there at the top.

The blame is with the people running the sport and our promotion must accept blame also for instance whoever signed Palovarra signed a 3 pointer as No 1 and then after checking any fixture clashes decided to sign him anyway unbelievable another example off taking the paying public for granted.

While technically it might not be the fault of the promotion , it's a completely unacceptable for fans to turn up to support our team and have less than half a team to support . Injuries happen ( hence no Berge ) we know that , but the rest is a nonsense . If a football team has 2 or more players missing through international call ups , then the match gets called off . Yes i know speedway is different and we cant afford just to call off meetings , but is the alternative i.e. a heavy home defeat in front of a sparse crowd really going to do us any good ?

I agree, it is completely unacceptable, so the match should be called off.
