Pjr Engines

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I had a thought the other day about PJR engines etc, and I was just contemplating why more EL and PL riders don't use them.

They are clearly very good engines as you only have to look at who uses them to see; Manzares, Bridger, Holder, Woffinden, Schlien, Ward and more. I'm not taking anything away from these guys they're all very very talented riders and could all do what they do without these engines undoubtedly. But as anyone who knows anything about the mechanical side to speedway will know, the more funding you have for equipment in most cases the more consistent and better rider you will be. (Which I don't agree with I don't like how speedway is all about money these days, people with less funding are hardly getting a chance!)

Take Manzares as an example, this season is his first in Europe and at some tracks he's never been to before he's been known to score double figures! Not taking anything away from him he is an extremely talented rider, but your engine and equipment obviously plays a big part in your riding.

I am aware that these engines are very expensive and a lot of riders aren't able to afford them, but some are able to and they choose elsewhere. I think they would be a worthwhile investment as there's a very high chance you would make your money back running these engines.

Well lets just say you only ever hear about pjr or any other tuners when they are sucessfull. Just before it closed one riders new top tuned engine nearly blew a hole in the startline at birmingham .i didnt see that tuner telling the world how good his motors were that day.

Well this is what happens with highly tuned race engines with no rev limiter, they keep revving until they crap themselves.

PJR is an engine tuner not a manufacture, as the first post seems to imply.

Having spent some time at PJR when he was dyno testing an engine for us, it was illuminating, informative and we learned more in an hour than I could ever have thought possible.

Peter was complimentary about the engine we had taken (which was one of Eddie Bull's) and complimentary about Eddie Bull too.

It wasn't a cheap excercise, but we were able to rectify several issues with the engine simply because of the expertise shared with us.

It was undoubtedly money very well spent.

the difference is in the cams

all tuners basically do the same job , ie honing , valve seating etc

Think that is a big factor.I seem to remember Cribby playing around with different cams all the time.Mind you he rode with avery different style to a lot of others in them days.He revved the ar#e out of the bike into the bends.
