Marcelle
Yeah they had to take the touchline up and where the corner flags went...I remember seeing some footage of an England match played the week after a speedway meeting and you could see the difference in colour in the turf where it had been. PHILIPRISING
ONE of the reasons the FA put forward for pressurising Wembley Stadium (which, of course, they didn't own in those days) to ditch speedway was the alleged damage to their supposedly pristine soccer pitch
customhouseregular
Thanks for your replies folks. Sadly the old Wembley is gone but the new Wembley is here. I understand Cardiff have a long-term contract to stage the British GP, but is anything stopping Wembley staging a major Speedway meeting?. I wrote to the Wembley Management months ago re the possibility of an 80th. World Speedway Championship meeting, featuring every World Champion still riding plus as many of the world's top riders as possible, to be staged in September 2016...80 years after the first World Final. I never had a reply.

I think the cost of renting Wembley for the amount of time needed would be "astronomical":
SCB
I remember MJJ's sublime pass round Super Nikki in the final the other year at Vojens, can you see this happening on a rain soaked put-down around a football pitch. I remember MJJ passing Nicki too. And it was up the inside
PHILIPRISING
MJJ remembers it too... probably NK as well!

The cost of such event. I think the cost of renting Wembley for the amount of time needed would be "astronomical": Exactly, it would cost too much, plus I don't think they'ed be interested. Tsunami
I remember MJJ passing Nicki too. And it was up the inside After Nicki made the mistake to try and block him off. MJJ won it but Nicki gave it to him.
Wessex Wanderer
ONE of the reasons the FA put forward for pressurising Wembley Stadium (which, of course, they didn't own in those days) to ditch speedway was the alleged damage to their supposedly pristine soccer pitch I don't think there was much problem with the footy pitch condition until they put the roof all round the stadium. Before the turf was open to the elements from all directions and seemed to weather back in easily and quickly but once the roof went on it was very different. Probably something to do with atmospherics and air flows or something like that. Always ready to be corrected by anyone with some professional horticulture knowledge. Marcelle
Wembleys pitch was fine until they pulled the stadium down, only affected by "other" events...they had trouble with the pitch in the new stadium but its good now. mickthemuppet
I think the corners at wembley were permanent but the straights were put downs, from memory It was all permanent. It was a proper speedway track

nw42
Pedersen does that to killer and there would have been uproar lol Agreed, but I don't think he did anything wrong, he was going round Zagar so it's not as though he should have been obliged to leave room. It was good to see Pedersen seeming to acknowledge that it wasn't unfair riding. Good GP so far, hope it continues in the same way.
