Vojens Gp 2014

Recommended Posts

BEEN to Vojens more times than I can remember but cannot recall better weather than we are enjoying this weekend. Bet that's put a curse on it!

Forecast is excellent, clear blue sky this morning and OO is hopeful of a 20,000 crowd. Over 16,000 tickets sold by end of play yesterday.

Must say that the whole facility, including the track, was in prime condition yesterday.

People genuinely gutted for Greg, not just because of the affect that it will have on his title hopes but the fact that he misses a GP for the first time. That was a remarkable record, a huge achievement on his part.

With Woffinden also far from fit, the title race is suddenly wide open again. Of course we are going to miss Hancock and Iversen, and not see Tai at his best, but for some of the riders a golden opportunity beckons, not least for those currently outside the top eight.

100% agree with everything you say I was there yesterday so tell me why we won't be returning next year instead we are going to a stadium that holds half what Vojens holds seems stupid to me let's face it there was a big crowd there last year so there is still an interest in Vojens can't get my head around it

NOT entirely true... Horsens (we are told) will have a capacity of around 13,000 and in general has better spectator facilities, more covered grandstands, etc.

The other side of the coin, of course, is that a temporary track will have to be laid.

Lot of politics as well, with OO still battling with his local council who have continually thwarted his plans (no financial help) to put a roof over much of Vojens.

Well if Horsens holds 13000 and say we can expect possibly 20000 today where does the other 7000 sit next year I visited the Horsens stadium a few weeks ago yeah it's better but the track is gonna be totally exposed to the elements still think its a mistake not going back to Vojens

Really sad to see Greg out of the GP. I am quite certain his record will never be beaten. Hopefully he will still win the title this year...World Champion at 44 would be one hell of an achievement. If a system whereby the total points scored over the GP's ridden were used to determine the title, GP's missed due to injury would not be counted. It would have to be injury only...riders could not disregard GP's missed due to suspension. It seems inherently unfair that riders have to rely on wildcards if injury prevents them reaching the top 8, whilst lesser riders qualify by virtue of competing in all 12 rounds.

Having been to nearly 100 GP's since it started, I am very disillusioned with the way the GP's are looking evermore to the put-down tracks, so for the first time since the series started in 95 I have not bothered going to one this year, even though I live in Cardiff. There have always been issues with the put- downs but coupled with the new silencers its like watching Motocross rather than Speedway. I remember MJJ's sublime pass round Super Nikki in the final the other year at Vojens, can you see this happening on a rain soaked put-down around a football pitch.

Does anyone know how Tai got on with practice?

I mentioned it yesterday:

Skadet verdensmester Tai Woffinden i tre træningsrunder. 1. var skidt men to sidste bedre. Men tydeligvis store smerter i hånden. #sporfyn

Tai had 3 practice rounds. 1st was c__p. Last was better but with obvious large pains in his hand.

I feel really bad for Greg as he has been so unlucky ................ but I think the system overall works quite well as those that chase back wheels and take risks are more likely to have to sit out at some time during the year..... those like Greg (ordinarily) who play the %'s will stay on track more............... the WC's usually suffice for the guys who deserve them and missed out due to injury but we do have the odd year where BSI maybe needed an extra one

If we take it back to the old world championship system again then it was far more ruthless for those with injuries

your suggestion is an interesting one.....although I could see riders starting to abuse it if they didnt like the track, were having a bad time with engines, were only 75% fit, or their Polish club insist quietly that they save themselves for a final playoff match etc etc

Put-down tracks...was not Wembley a put-down track?. I quite agree, a permanent track built specifically for regular racing and preferably well over 300m. is preferable. However, that does limit the choice of venues somewhat. I have never been to Gorzow or Torun but on tv evidence, I think I would rather watch a GP there than at Cardiff.
