Swedish play offs 2014

It's only the end of August and Elitserien is already finished. It's only 14 rounds but still. This means that it's play off time.

Elitserien's play off consists of two quart finals, two semifinals and one final.
teams 1 and 2 from the final standings are seeded to semi final while teams 3-6 are qualified for the quarter finals.

Team 3 gets to pick (between teams 5 & 6) which team they want to meet and also if the want to start at home or away.

Team 4 (obviously) meets the team that wasn't picked by team 3 but Team 4 also gets to choose whether to start home or away.

Rospiggarna chose Smederna and to start away, while Indianerna also chose to start away against their opponent Dackarna.

The semis works the same way, Vetlanda gets to pick first and Piraterna get the remaining team.

Both meeting are televised in Sweden,

Dackarna-Indianerna will be the main focus meeting aired in Cmore sport

Smederna-Rospiggarna will be shown on Cmore extreme.

It seems though that neither of this week's meetings or next week's meetings are shown on Eurosport due to US Open in Tennis.

More info about that in this thread: http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=77494

Quarter-finals leg 1: 2014-08-26

Ikaros Smederna - Rospiggarna

Ikaros Smederna

  1. Grzegorz Zengota
  2. Kenni Larsen
  3. Pawel Przedpelski
  4. Grigorij Laguta
  5. Peter Karlsson
  6. Oliver Berntzon
  7. Magnus Zetterström

Rospiggarna

  1. Maciej Janowski
  2. Timo Lahti
  3. Mads Korneliussen
  4. Kim Nilsson
  5. Andreas Jonsson
  6. Chris Harris
  7. Jonas Davidsson

For the first time since June Ikaros Smederna can bring in the best riders that they have. Kenni returned last week and this week
Grigorij Laguta makes his comeback after being sidelined for two months due to a foot injury. Smederna's riders also seems to have

found a good form in the last couple of meetings. Especially Zengota seems to have found himself a good form.

Smederna did a heroic effort away against Indianerna two weeks ago which was followed up by a good start

against Vargarna last week before the meeting was aborted by rain. For Smederna the return of Laguta/Kenni

means that Davey Watt is no longer registered in Smederna's squad and that Mikkel Michelsen is outside the lineup.

Rospiggarna on the other hand finished the season with three straight narrow losses against Smederna, Piraterna and Dackarna.

They have brought in Maciej Janowski instead of Walasek who is injured. Mads Korneliussen has been sidelined for a while

due to a crash but is supposed to be fit for fight.

Some think Smederna will steam roll this but I think that it will be quite close over two meetings. Smederna have been quite strong

at home but so have Rospiggarna. I think Smederna will need maybe 10-12 points from the first leg to be able to advance to the semi final.

Dackarna-Indianerna, postponed to Monday Sep 1st. (televised on Cmore).

Dackarna

  1. Nicki Pedersen R/R
  2. Joonas Kylmäkorpi
  3. Michael Jepsen Jensen
  4. Rune Holta
  5. Alexandr Loktaev
  6. Dennis Andersson
  7. Robin Aspegren

Indianerna

  1. Fredrik Lindgren
  2. Kenneth Bjerre
  3. Piotr Protasiewicz
  4. Piotr Swiderski
  5. Cameron Woordward
  6. Antonio Lindbäck
  7. Mikael Max

Stackarna, err I mean Dackarna, have a tough situation at the moment. Patryk Dudek suspended until till further notice,

Krzyzstof Buczkowski long time injured (replaced by Rune Holta), Robin Aspegren injured (replaced by Victor Paloovaara) and

then in the Polish Ekstraliga Championship, Nicki Pedersen was injured and is unable to ride. Then who knows whether

Loktaev is planning on showing up or if he have another one of those occurrences when he "strains a muscle" while entering his van.

Dackarna faces a hard challenge and while I think that they might be able to keep the scores down at home but over two

meetings I don't think they will able to stand up against Indianerna.

Indianerna are at full strength and are imo favourites to win this quarter final. I think Dackarna's track which is a

pretty "easy" track will suit Indianerna well.

update 2014-08-31, 22.00.

As you know Niels-Kristian Iversen crashed in yesterday's GP and is out for the rest of the season.

This means that Indianerna have opted to replace him and Joel Andersson in the lineup with

Cameron Woodward and Piotr Swiderski. As a result of this Antonio Lindbäck is moved down to reserve.

For Dackarna Nicki will not ride and they will use R/R for him.

  1. Andreas Jonsson

  3. Mads Korneliussen
  4. Chris Harris
  5. Maciej Janowski
  6. Timo Lahti
  7. Jonas Davidsson

Ikaros Smederna

  1. Kenni Larsen
  2. Pawel Przedpelski
  3. Grigorij Laguta
  4. Peter Karlsson
  5. Grzegorz Zengota
  6. Oliver Berntzon
  7. Magnus Zetterström

Indianerna - Dackarna

Indianerna

  1. Fredrik Lindgren
  2. Piotr Swiderski
  3. Kenneth Bjerre

  5. Piotr Protasiewicz
  6. Mikael Max
  7. Antonio Lindbäck

Dackarna

  1. Michael Jepsen Jensen
  2. Rune Holta
  3. Alexandr Loktaev
  4. Nicki Pedersen R/R
  5. Joonas Kylmäkorpi
  6. Robin Aspegren
  7. Victor Palovaara

Backup day: 2014-09-03

  5. Maciej Janowski
  6. Timo Lahti
  7. Jonas Davidsson

  3. Jaroslaw Hampel (K)
  4. Tomas H Jonasson
  5. Janusz Kolodziej
  6. David Ruud
  7. Magnus Karlsson

Piraterna - Indianerna

Piraterna

  1. Bjarne Pedersen
  2. Linus Sundström
  3. Chris Holder
  4. Anton Rosén
  5. Piotr Pawlicki
  6. Fredrik Engman
  7. Rory Schlein

Indianerna

  1. Fredrik Lindgren
  2. Antonio Lindbäck
  3. Kenneth Bjerre
  4. Piotr Swiderski
  5. Piotr Protasiewicz
  6. Mikael Max
  7. Scott Nicholls

Semi finals leg 2:

2014-09-16 (semi 1:2)

Elit Vetlanda - Rospiggarna

Elit Vetlanda (43)

  1. Emil Sayfutdinov
  2. Bartek Zmarzlik
  3. Jaroslaw Hampel
  4. Janusz Kolodziej
  5. Tomas H Jonasson
  6. Jacob Thorssell
  7. David Ruud

Rospiggarna (47)

  1. Grzegorz Walasek
  2. Kim Nilsson
  3. Mads Korneliussen
  4. Chris Harris
  5. Andreas Jonsson
  6. Jonas Davidsson
  7. Timo Lahti

Rospiggarna holds a 4p lead after the first leg of the semi final. There are some changes compared to last week.

For Vetlanda, Jacob Thorssell is back. He replaces Magnus Karlsson. For Rospiggarna Grzegorz Walasek returns after injury

which means that Maciej Janowski leaves the team.

2014-09-17 (semi 2:2)

Indianerna - Piraterna

Indianerna

  1. Fredrik Lindgren
  2. Antonio Lindbäck
  3. Kenneth Bjerre R/R
  4. Piotr Swiderski
  5. Piotr Protasiewicz
  6. Mikael Max
  7. Scott Nicholls

Piraterna

  1. Linus Sundström
  2. Piotr Pawlicki R/R
  3. Chris Holder
  4. Bjarne Pedersen
  5. Rory Schlein
  6. Simon Gustafsson
  7. Fredrik Engman

Both teams are heavily affected by injuries; Iversen, Woodward and Bjerre for Indianerna.

For Piraterna Greg Hancock is injured and his replacement Pawlicki is also injured then add the suspended Ward to that.

I think Piraterna will fight back as much as the can but in the end I think Indianerna will be too strong.

Although Piraterna misses more "Important" riders, IMO Indianerna have a much wiser team build which means that they are less affected.by injuries.

Piraterna put all eggs in the same basket with Holder, Greg and Darcy which meant that there weren't much space left for the rest of the riders,

Both teams uses R/R for Bjerre and Pawlicki respectively. For both teams all riders can take a R/R heat.

Normally Indianerna's track Sannahed provides a very condition for great racing and I hope it will the same tomorrow.

Final 1: 2014-09-30

Indianerna

  1. Fredrik Lindgren
  2. Antonio Lindbäck
  3. Kenneth Bjerre
  4. Jurica Pavlic
  5. Piotr Protasiewicz
  6. Mikael Max
  7. Scott Nicholls

Elit Vetlanda

  1. Tai Woffinden
  2. Emil Sayfutdinov
  3. Jaroslaw Hampel (K)
  4. Bartosz Zmarzlik
  5. Tomas H Jonasson
  6. David Ruud
  7. Jacob Thorssell

Is it all systems go with the weather ?

Not yet. The forecasts looked good a couple of days ago but as always it's Tuesday and it's raining.

There is a large area with rain over Bottenhavet (Bothnian Sea) in a worst case scenario it will affect Smederna-Rospiggarna

and possible also the second meeting. http://www.smhi.se/vadret/nederbord-molnighet/radar-blixt-sverige

Is it not on eurosport tonight, seems odd they have followed it all the way to the play offs and then drop it?

They haven't dropped it, it's the US open in tennis which takes precedence over Swedish speedway.

I've been on a grand European tour of streamers and i'm afraid I have come up empty -handed. Hoping for a last minute saviour. . This is someone who loves tennis and can see the commercial reasons for carrying it, but Eurosport are definitely short changing their subscribers by not even carrying the meetings on a delayed basis. "Screw the customer" in it's purest form. Alan.

I guess we'll have to make do with this.

They also have two channels Alan so the tennis excuse is not acceptable and I'm rather surprised how many are accepting it..

Eurosport 2 is carrying over three hours of Badminton on delayed coverage tonight for example.

I totally agree with you. I did say "the commercial reasons" and "short-changing their subscribers" and finished off with "screw the customers" so I think we agree. :t: All the best from a sunny US where I have the tennis on the TV with 6 channel coverage on ESPN. Alan.
