Peterborough V Somerset 24/08/2014 @ 5pm Pl

Recommended Posts

We have run RR since May so I don't see another month making too much difference and won 2 matches away using it, Hall is currently averaging 3 pts a match from his 2 home matches so far, We likely wouldn't have lost twice at home with RR.

JACOBS commitment at Mildenhall was never mentioned, the official line was they didn't want to burn him out, clearly that's a real concern as he signed for Workington within 48 hours.

Press release by Peterborough 13/08/14:

“In fact Joe had indicated to the management that wanted to miss as few meetings for Mildenhall in the coming weeks, something which would have caused us a problem as we have pencilled in two more Sunday home fixtures.”

If i rider comes wants to miss PL meeting to compete in NL meetings he should expect to be dropped,

Im sure that racing PL will do more for his speedway that continuing to ride in the NL

Joe need PL not NL at this stage

A pleasant afternoon yesterday, despite the result. The friend who I never expected at this meeting turned up in the end, so that was a surprise! Not the best racing I've seen around the EoES, but as I say, still a good afternoon :t: Hall I still think is about as useful as a chocolate fire guard at present  but happy again for Roynon that he's picking up a few points and looks to still have potential even after all of his nasty injuries over the years. Unsure what to say about Dilger, other than he likes it down in the dirt :P

Roynon for Blackbird accepted, they could have kept Fisher in the team and continued with RR, that would have meant Bjerre, Ostergaard, Dryml and most likely Roynon would be taking rides currently filled by Hall with the likelihood of at least 7 or 8 points per meeting, Hall wont get anywhere near that.

Not convinced Dilger for Jacobs was worth the change either.

good post, I totally agree

.

I agree with you again

I will reply to that by each point made:

What did I expect? See posts 51 & 52 because nothing I can add to those.

Joe's fixture clashes should have been anticipated - not his fault so I don't blame him - he signed up for a Tues. PL home meeting team as did I which is why I was unable to attend yesterday (thankfully).

Roynon I agree - has done better than I expected - just hope he stays safe would hate to see him collect yet another injury in his career but now in our colours.

Dilger - would rather have seen another young Brit struggle at No. 7 while settling into the team if Joe had to be replaced (Greenwood once fit again could have done so with a bit of management foresight if fixture clashes with Mildy and Jacobs had been properly anticipated.)

As for Hall he has actually scored MORE than I (and others) anticipated even though in somewhat fortunate instances. No I don't blame him entirely but he's the one on the bike so 50% - the other 50% being Management who wrongly thought they could turn the clock back to 2006 when many fans were not that blind!

good post

Dilger will take time to settle down but I suspect he will match Jacobs.

From what I've seen of him so far, and based on comments of fans of other clubs where he's been, I'd say that's just optimistic guesswork

In any case, what we wanted/needed was a reserve who would do BETTER than Jacobs - and preferably a young Brit, not yet another duff European rider

Which begs the question why they didn't mention it when releasing him, but at the end of the day he could only ride in one meeting and if not Peterborough we could have had a guest.

I read that as Joe was prepared to miss Mildenhall meetings for Peterborough, therefore showing how committed he was to the Panthers. Joe left Mildenhall last year to ride for Glasgow to move to the next level because both clubs were Sunday tracks, so it wouldn't make sense if it was the other way round now. The lad is clearly showing how much in wants a PL club by the distance he is prepared to travel, Glasgow now Workington. Max has been brought in to strengthen the team a bit regardless what we think of this change.

I was told Jacobs was very disappointed to be dropped by the Panthers, I think its fair having seen Dilger ride now most of the Panthers fans are pretty disappointed he was dropped as well.

When he signed he could do both, he didn't move the goalposts did he, if that was indeed a factor? Ambition would say that you're right with the latter point but I suspect that a decent pay packet would also be a factor.

Well as a vaguely semi-neutral (ok I did want Panthers to win, but only as my second team!) I actually quite enjoyed yesterday!!

Disappointed in the final result but Todd Kurtz was the main reason.

Well done to the big bro.

And also the crash suffered by Lasse Bjerre certainly knocked points off him.

Oh and that goddam TR yielding an 8-1!!

However I think the criticism of Panthers is a bit OTT.

Hall (and the management) seem to be getting most of the stick.

I don't think that's totally fair

Look back at Hall's scoring over the past 3 seasons and it is about 7 and over on average.

He has a great reputation on the big tracks.

The Showground is a big track so it would have been an entirely reasonable expectation that he would be scoring 8 or 9 at home most weeks.

As it turned out he scored paid 7.

He rode well in his first ride to come from the back and beat Aspgren and Wright.

In his second he finished behind Osty and the forceful pair of Morris & Wright.

In his third he finished behind Osty with Allen miles in front (as he was in every race).

In his fourth he was a distant second to the big bro (who picked up a paid 15). Yes he was fortunate that Aspgren dropped it when second but that was the only lucky point he picked up.

It seemed to me Hall's biggest problem was that his gating was diabolical.

Since it was only his second meeting since the beginning of April, maybe he needs to be cut a bit more slack.

Adam Roynon was certainly better than I expected.

Two very good wins.

A big shame about his second ride when he collected Bjerre.

He looked pretty shaken about what had happened to Bjerre.

Max Dilger - the jury's still out!!

First 3 rides he ends up on his bum on the first bend!!

Yes he got a big clump from Aspgren to put him there but he seemed to do the other two without any assistance!

Good win in his first ride though after getting the reprieve.

Good points later against Wright & Aspgren.

Not at all convinced Jacobs would have scored any more.

But Max does need to toughen up on the first bends.

I was very disappointed with Nicky Barrett. Was expecting much more.

He seemed very slow.

Other than that, Osty & Dryml scored as many as you would expect.

Dryml's tapes exclusion in the last heat didn't help though!!

By the way I was surprised to see the guy stand on the track a couple of metres away from him when he was starting off 15m.

Is this normal?

It looked a bit Health & Safety'ish to me!!

I thought they usually stood on the grass and looked along the line to see if the start was fair?

Can't believe his peripheral vision could have taken in the tapes and Dryml at the same time.

Lasse Bjerre was very unfortunate and seemed to take a very nasty one in his second ride.

Certainly curtailed his scoring a lot.

Was surprised to see him come out for his last two rides.

For Somerset, Allen was imperious and never looked like being headed.

Morris scored well after his blank opener though I suspect he won't be on Osty's xmas card list after their second ride.

Big bro Todd was a revelation - gated very well and looked fast.

Chas was a bit up and down - I suppose 5+2 is a decent return but he has been going so well I was expecting more.

Aspgren was pretty disappointing.

Starke scored about what I expected - 1 awarded point.

R/R was a bit of a let down - 3+1 - got to expect littly bro to have beat that.

So all in all, without big bro's performance I reckon I would have seen a Panthers win with some decent races (and some processions)!!

Oh and by the way - Adam could do with getting out of the gate in a straight line, he was snaking a lot!!

In fact the whole Panthers team could do with being sharper out of the traps.

Would have made a big difference.

That should be "is that his gating is diabolical" - that's not a surprise unfortunately although it may sharpen up a touch as you say, but nothing major?

Yeah. It's called "spin" - and it's sometimes added later as an arse-covering exercise

prezactkly!

no question about it!

Max has been brought in to strengthen the team a bit regardless what we think of this change.

but it hasn't strengthened the team! That's the point. Edited by PE7Panther

Was Todd using Brady's engine? He did once on Friday.

He rode One of Brady's engines throughout Friday's meeting before blowing it to pieces in his lst race!

Meant to read last race.
