A ORLOV
Agree GRW123, there should be a separate playoff for a different title. We, as have other clubs, have ended up leading the league and then lost out in the play off meetings. What makes it worse is if a top rider has an injury and the team is handicapped.
Trees
I don't think all that has gone before means jack because u obviously have to go good to finish in the top 4 but yeah you've got to have luck too :-( It's sure galling to lose your number one and reserve who's on great form going into the playoffs. We can't just give up though, gotta show grit and determination.
BluPanther
Here's an idea - let's cancel the play-offs and give the trophy to Swindon # justsaying No... it's much more fun watching the Robins stuff the Pirates along the way...
van wolfswinkel
It seems like lady luck is definitely shining on Swindon right now. All the other contenders are having massive problems with top riders. Â I've always rubbish the play-off idea, and feel it makes a total mockery of the League format. But, this year even more so. taking into consideration, Top Riders injuries, Riders Suspensions, Foreign Riders not wanting to ride in the EL, PL riders performing elsewhere, The play-offs have been demeaned and are of no importance other than the TV companies. Â What makes it so sad is that the season has been running now for 6 months and all that has gone before means Jack rubbish. And you wonder why the sport is dying on it's feet.. Â Â Â I rather that, than acclaim you are League Champions because you happen to win a four team tournament at the end of the season when nobody else could raise a side. Them's the rules, as Orlovsky said Swindon finished top in 2009 yet lost to Wolves. They're important to the fans that end up as winners, and keep the season going. Robins aren't definitely there yet though, whereas the other 3 are..been a good battle with Eastie and Lakey. Lynn and Poole very unfortunate. The rugby team I follow, Gloucester, have lost many play-offs after finishing top. Should be a separate trophy for the Elite league winners, as in rugby league.

marko
The play offs maybe the rules but that does not make it right, the league has been a farce all season and having these play offs will neither add to it or make what's gone before suddenly all ok

LagutaRacingFan
Swindon blew it against Poole last year so let's not act like they have already won it. Â My money is still with Poole, they will come through
Star Fever
Do i detect a slight burning sensation whist fidgiting on your chair.. Its something called a marathon, not a sprint !! Be prepared for the ride of your lives..The seasons just started.. No way - I'd have thought most ppl know by now I've always been anti-playoffs from year one day one, no matter who tops the league.  Can't see the point of having a 7 month long season of 144 fixtures just to boil it down to 6 knock-out fixtures in a few weeks for the supposed sake of an exciting climax, especially with seasons like this one where any of 3 teams can still finish top of the league thus its already an exciting climax  Never understood either why ppl frown on double point TR and Joker rides when the play-offs really are 'Its A knockout' !!  And yes the season is meant to be a marathon - its the play-offs that are a pointless sprint. g13webb
Although Lynn have led from day one, this seasons final league positions are still up for grabs. there are still a few teams in with a shout. If it wasn't for those stupid play-offs, these final fixtures would be of massive importance. instead of which, they are of little importance. Â Like people have already said, let the league winner be Champions, BUT let the top four teams compete for the old KO Cup. as of the play-offs, and be acclaimed as Champion Cup Winners... Â It would preserve sanity, it would reward the clubs for the seven month of competition, it would provide the TV with an end of the season spectacle. It would give clubs and fans two chances of success. AND, Â IT WOULDN'T COST A PENNY MORE........

AND,  IT WOULDN'T COST A PENNY MORE........  Being top of the league is of huge importance when it comes to Play-Offs, that's why we're being chased down hard by Poole and Coventry. Suggesting that the Play-Offs become a different trophy is ridiculous. All cup competitions in speedway are painfully poorly attended, fans couldn't give a crap.  Play-Offs are great and are here to stay Edited September 10, 2014 by screamer

It would cut down on the money clubs make from the play offs, the best crowds are at the play offs, supporters of clubs not involved come to watch and the racing is the most exciting you will see in a league match. Been say a million times no one cares about a play off comp that involves no league title ...If one team had ran away with the league then the season would have been over for all teams come june meaning crowrds going down etc teams going bust . Â Plus also you have the crowds the Play off bring it so your comment about not costing a penny is way of the mark .
Bagpuss
People can debate it til the cows come home, but the bottom line is that the fairest way to decide would be who finishes top, but often the most exciting way and always the most lucrative is using Play Offs. I don't think speedway really had a choice which method it uses considering the state it's in.
