Tom Turner
Does anybody know what the main differences are between the Mitas and the Golden Tyres? I am lead to believe that the only rider in the Grand Prix series using the Golden Tyre is Greg Hancock. Is that right? Greg Hancock seems to be gating brilliantly at the moment and I am guessing this may be something to do with the Golden Tyre. Taken from http://www.goldentyre.com Front and rear tyres designed in collaboration with top riders of this discipline. Excellent traction at starts, good durability while still maintaining grip characteristics for the duration of one or more races. Greg is gating brilliant but I have noticed that he can struggle to maintain the pace afterwards and has to ride very defensively. This works well for Greg as he has more years experience than some riders have even been alive! Is this down to the tyre or is just Greg? Is it work having better traction at the start and a potential lack of pace later on in the race? What are the main differences between the Mitas and Golden Tyres? I apologize if this thread or similar has already been started Edited August 18, 2014 by Charizard
Triple.H.
The Golden tyres are made from rubber that's blacker than the black rubber that Mitas use though it's very hard to spot with the naked eye.
cowboy cookie returns?
The compound of the Golden seems softer so gives more traction I am led to believe.
OveFundinFan
Scott Nicholls answered the question during the gp. He said visually little difference between the two, the difference will lie in the make up of the side walls. Scotty reckoned come the end of the season, or towards the end, some riders will do some testing and probably change. Whether the difference makes any actual measurable difference sometimes does not matter, many times its all in the mind, and that can make a reall difference. ch958
how about find the cheapest suitable tyres and make everyone use them - one tyre a match lets start saving some bloody money
OveFundinFan
Probably a good idea to try to make the sport less costly. They do it in F1 and Moto GP. One tyre a match is a good starter for a debate, though I would think its a bit extreme. I would think the most money is spent on engine tuning. You can see who has got the best engines. I dont know how much a top engine tune costs compared to a "normal" engine tune but I would imagine there is a wide gulf.
SCB
In league racing it's 7 tyres per teams per meeting. So 1 tyre per meeting. GPs are unlimited though - the environmentalists must being doing their nut in
*JJ
Mitas tyres cost £40 each. How much are Goldens?
PHILIPRISING
MITAS supply tyres free of charge at each GP ... pits chatter I've caught up on suggests that the compound of the Golden Tyres while very good from the start is more suited to a rider of Greg's style (classic, old-school) than the more modern techniques.

That's interesting to hear, thanks for that. Do you know if any other sponsors provide free equipment like Mitas?
