Tom Turner
You cant be serious. Yes, just as a judge would do if you ended up in court. Update: Darcy Ward: "I received some bad family news yesterday." "I had a few drinks too and guess I had a few too many." "I was only marginally over the limit" "I guess I was not hydrated enough" "It's been the worst day of my life". As others have said there is no excuse and a ban should be expected. Scott Nicholls: "It would set a bad example if a ban is not awarded" Edited August 17, 2014 by Charizard
Star Lady
Good apology by Darcy! No excuses though! Whatever the news he got, there is no excuse. 15 other riders depend on him being fully compus mentis. Agree he did the right thing facing the camera .
Elmo
Didn't seem a great deal of sincerity in that apology

pandorum
He should have 'hydrated' True he had guts to go in front of the camera but he should be seriously hammered (pun intended) by the authorities. Scotty makes excellent points. Setting a precedent by allowing Ward to get away with a slap on the wrist would damage the GPs and make the sport look stupid (sorry about that) Whatever the reasons Ward should be at the very least be thrown out of the GP and made to qualify for 2016 as he should be told he will not be given a pick for next year.
Pirate Fid
Because Scott Nicholls can talk about setting an example can't he. Forgot he's never done anything wrong. Not
Phil The Ace
It was brave of the lad to be interviewed. No excuse though

spencebel
Looking at Ward interview, he does not look in a good place... If he has had bad family news, then pull out of meeting, after speaking to the powers that be, not to hit the bottle....
Icescot
seems like he thinks it is ok to drink alcohol before a race meeting and that all he did wrong was not hydrate !! He must be banned. was he sober when interviewed ? Edited August 17, 2014 by Icescot
SteveLyric2
He actually said he was in a restaurant and had 'a couple of drinks'!! Still too many and no excuses. I think I should start a book on how many Darcy Ward/poole threads there will be by the end of the day!!
westhamboy66
What ever the reason nothing mitigates a rider turning up under the influence of Alcohol. Not only is it his life that is at stake but those who race along side him. Drink in these circumstances is equally as or more dangerous than drugs and should be punished accordingly. If Mr Middleditch doesn't understand that then he should be nowhere near the Management of Sportsmen especially in such a dangerous sport. I say this as someone who considers himself a fan of Darcy

Agree he did the right thing facing the camera . No excuse for putting other riders in danger. Does that mean if we were to have bad news and go drink driving it would be ok. Needs to be a ban

van wolfswinkel
This talented prat goes from one disaster to another. The best rider I've seen at The Abbey for years. Will be as good as Barry Briggs one day if he ever learns to behave properly.
Tom Turner
Update:Source: bournemouthecho.co.uk The 22-year-old is due to attend a jury meeting following this afternoon's event in Riga at which he will give his version of events. Based on that meeting, a decision will then be made on what punishment, if any, will be handed out. A suspension and/or fine are possible penalties that Ward could face. His team manager at Poole, Neil Middleditch, politely declined to comment on the matter in detail. However, Middleditch told the Daily Echo: "I do not condone Darcy's actions but there are some mitigating circumstances which will come to light." josietoms
If he was in a resturant and had a couple of drinks last night like he says then I'd expect him not to be over the limit this afternoon. I'd say he was probably out till early hrs of Sunday if it's true that torun are fed up with his partying this year
Crawleyeagle2
Hi guys new to this forum read the posts on here. And just heard what Scott Nichols had to say on euro sport . It seems Darcy has had a family problem that's not good but what he had done today is wrong and he should be punished , if any one on this forum had bad news had a few drinks and driven down the road and got stopped u would be banned what ever the excuse . This surely must be the case for Darcy is is in the wrong he was over the limit FACT and should be punished to the full power of the FIM
Daniel Smith
Midlo should be suspended by the BSPA for advocating Darcy's behaviour. It's not the 1st time and would also class that man a danger to British Speedway. He's a big drinker himself and clearly sees no problem as long as there's an excuse. BSPA, sort your members out
Wolfsbane
Mitigating circumstances my ar$e. Middleditch sir you are an embarrassment. So the lad has had bad news. Even if, hopefully not, it's a bereavement, that's no excuse for turning up too pi$$ed to ride. If you need to hit the pop to help you get over it, pull out of the meeting. Ronnie Correy did the same at the fours some years ago and he was a knob as well. 'Sorry officer I know I'm too pi$$ed to drive but I've had some bad news' 'Tough luck sonny, you're nicked'. The only thing that 'should come out in the next few days' Neil is your resignation.
