Emil finished 3rd in the 2009 GP-series and would have been at least 2nd in 2013, hadn't Miedzinski fenced him. Then Emil also is the reigning Europeans champion

so it is obvious that Emil have the better merits then a "talent" who have only one junior titles.

Emil also won the u21 twice and if not being in the GPs could have won it 4 times. Saw him win u21 in Pardubice with 14 points only losing to Troy in his first race. Holder was 2nd and Pavlic 3rd

He has only missed 2 GP seasons, so I failed to see how he could have won it 4 times. With all the top guys getting injured last year thought he'd have stood a great chance.

Yeah, but they also smashed anything the NL ad to offer that year, so not really a fair comparison.I could quote Cradley of 1983 as a yardstick for how strong the top flight is, but it's not a fair comparison. For every Cradley 83 there has to be a Swindon 83.I think the PL nowadays is stronger than the NL was - certainly in the 1970s when Michael Lee was in it.Back then, as soon as riders became half decent they would move up into the British League, but now they seem to stay down.Riders like Nick Morris and Craig Cook would never be riding in the lower flight then. It's even debateable if Robert Lambert would still be there.

That Cradley side was something else,a gem of a move i think by Adams? to bring Ravn in who had underachieved at the big pacy Hyde Rd?I went to a double header at Cradley with Belle Vue i think who scored 19? and Swindon also getting battered scoring i think? 23 points.

I remember Swindon scored 29 against them at home!! And Phil Crump scored a maximum, so it was like a Swindon victory.

You keep saying this.. the 'mega tough' old NL.

What was mega tough about it? It was a league full of journeyman. The current PL is stronger.

Ask anyone who see regular NL racing whether it was a piece of cake or not?ithe hard part sometimes was the travelling. Also alot of different tracks all of them offering different challenges i watched a fair bit following Malc Holloway's career and it was hard.As a example going up to beat the likes of T.Owen,J.Owen( the best) Jackson,Lawson,Garrad,Cox,Etheridge,Woods,Ferreira,Dugard,Silver and endless others was far from easy by the way did YOU see any NL racing.?

I have to disagree. Yes there were journeyman but, you also had up and coming young riders, English as well as Australians who went on to being world class and in some cases World Champions. i.e Havlock, Loram. The likes of Adams, Boyce, Wiltshire, Dugard. I could go on and on and all from the same era. All these riders started out in the National League. Can you name as many who or will go on to be World Class Today?. When a PL rider can score as many points in the Elite League as he can in the PL does that make him a better rider or is it that the Elite league has never been so weak?

A top 2nd division rider back in the day would be lucky if he could score a couple of points! In the 1st division and that was at reserve. Then again he would be up against the likes Collins, Penhall, Lee, Moran Bros etc etc!.

A little bit harder Imo Than the likes of Lingrern, Harris, King, AJ and a whole host of DU PL riders.

ACTUALLY no... sadly never saw him win a World Final ... didn't go to speedway until I started work in 1961 and only covered speedway occasionally until the late sixties and was too far down the pecking order to get sent to Sweden in in 1964 and 1966.

Our friendship really started in 1966 when I was ghosting some syndicated articles with members of England's soccer World Cup squad and was asked to do one with Briggo. He was a joy to work with - as have been just about all speedway riders I have come into contact with - and we have been mates pretty well ever since. He was (and still is) one of my original five sporting heroes along with Rod Laver, Seve Ballesteros, Gareth Edwards and Bobby Charlton.

He is also the most remarkable man I have ever met and at 80 is still living life flat out... pretty much how he rode!

Great man i first see him ride in 69 and my uncle used to say you might as well just write a maximum in the programme. He was certainly the most exciting rider i ever saw an awkward style but a flat out racer could he of won it in 72?I think so Barry and Ole were the best riders in that final but it was not to be i often thought Phil wouldn't it be great if Barry could of helped Ward for a bit all that wisdom and know how at the highest level. What an awful contradictory post.

How large due you want to make your selection period? One minute you are talking about Boyce, Wiltishire, Dugard, the next you are on about Collins and Penhall!

One minute you are telling us how great the riders in the league were, the next they wouldn't be able to score more than a couple of pts at reserve?

Again, what period?

It's no good plucking things out that are 15-20 years apart.

Of course you are also falling into the age old issue of picking out names that weren't 'names' at the time, just riders. Easy to do that from history.

I'll play the name game however and give you 3 recent Premier League riders.... Woffinden, Holder, Ward. I'll even go back a little bit further and throw Nicki Pedersen in.

I would move on if i were you because basically you said the NL was not very good WRONG my first point was that a young 16 year old novice took the NL by storm that was a hell of an achievement. Ask Mike Lee if the NL was a piece of cake riding against the likes of Eddie Argall, Jack Millen ,Arthur Browning (ect). Now i am saying no more on the subject as i know where this is going believe me the NL was a hard league give it the RESPECT it deserves.

Maybe I'm wrong but, I can't see how I'm being contradictory. 3 recent PL riders Woffinden, Holder and Ward. Yes without doubt 3 world class riders, 2 world champions. No one can argue with that. Then you go back a few years to NP.

You said in your post The PL of today. So what era from the NL would you like me to name riders who rode in the national League and then went on to ride in world finals etc. For example take Martin Yates No1 at Weymouth early 80's NL. Can you honestly say at the same time He could have been No1 at Swindon? I think we both would agree the answer would be no. I would say If he were riding today, he would have no trouble scoring double figures In the EL.
