Nicki P is extremely professional in his approach to speedway, is very clever, and he is utterly ruthless and cunning once he puts on his crash helmet. Darcy is not at all professional, is a bit of an idiot, but is something of a natural talent on a bike. I can't see much common ground there at all. You'd be hard pushed to find 10. We then, of course, get into the argument about whether we should consider riders like Jack Parker and Vic Duggan, but, in a way, that's another issue. On the subject of his riding "tactics", I wrote a book a few years ago called "Two Wimbledon Legends" about Ronnie Moore and Barry Briggs. Here are a couple of quotes from his own team mates about Briggo, "Barry had to go flat out, it was the only way he could ride. He wasn't exactly out of control, but he wasn't always in control either. If he came up on the inside of you and got some grip he was liable to bash into you." [Alf Hagon]; "I had a season riding with Barry - oh my God! I would gate, then leave a foot of room in case he wanted to come through. Usually, by the next bend, he would not just come through, but he would 'hang' me on the fence. Briggo was a selfish rider." [bob Andrews]. And that's his own team mates! But do we ever exclude Briggo from the 'greatest ever' lists because of the way he rode? I am sure I read an article many years ago written by Barry Briggs saying that one of his riding tricks when up against a rider who had for some reason found his way into Barry's 'black book' was to clamp the rider down and attempt to stamp his steel shoe onto the front wheel rim of the opposition which led to the rider flipping round. Yeah, he's only won 3 world titles. Some people do talk some utter garbage! Regarding Pedersen, he's no worse than many, many riders in the past. He's simply ridden in an era of instant communication where every incident, be it his fault or not is instantly reported on. As you seemingly do not value the first three at all. Ivan Mauger got a Gold Bike for winning his third world title. Can't see what all the fuss was about. Nicki has been at the top rank of world speedway for over 10 years. Darcy hasn't really managed 1 year so far. Nicki has so much dedication and the correct attitude and Ward is just a troubled fool. Of course there are fairer and better liked riders but talking about greats has nothing to do with how fair they are or how well liked they are. And with regards to Kelly Moran im merely pointing out he tarnished his reputation with a lot of his off track antics and Ward is doing the same. I have heard numerous stories about Kelly Moran mainly from a good friend of mine who was Mark Lorams mechanic in the late 80's early 90's. He was South African and he has told us some of the things that Kelly got up to whilst in South Africa. It of course is sad he is no longer here but his 'lifestyle' definatly affected what he achieved. I have no issue with Ward , the boy just isn't a nice human being. All the talent in the world but continually fails to show it. After that stunning wildcard appearance in 2011 did you or anyone think we would be midway through 2015 and he isn't in the series and the best he has finished is 8th? Nicki Pedersen quite simply is in the list of the top 20 riders who have raced speedway, and i say that as someone who doesnt like him, think he is a dirty rider as well.
