On the other hand it was a shame that Cassius Clay missed a few years......

EUREKA! This is exactly the role model that Darcy Ward should follow. He should convert to Islam (never a drop of alcohol will pass his lips then) - change his name to something Islamic e.g. Daheer Waheed and ride in a plain black race suit. Now that would be big box office when he makes his (then to be) much awaited return...

I don't think I did ask you did I? :o;):D :D

Well no, but I'll give you my opinion, anway. :P

And how about the procedure of directly seeding riders from the home nation to the final, which lasted throughout the sixties and seventies. Britain always qualifiers. But how about the Poles? They tended to seed their representatives.

Are you saying the World Finals of 1970, 1973, 1976 and 1979 were not proper World Finals?

Indeed. although in 1978 there were 4 guaranteed places given over to the Brits albeit we used the British Final to determine those 4. In truth though that was harsh because although we had 4 seeded places, it was of course only 4 so no matter how many quality Brits were around only 4 could possibly be at Wembley. Even worse a spoonful of sugar in this case didn't help the medicine go down but robbed PC of one of those 4 places

Arguably 1972 was even tougher, 5 places from the British Final to Wembley, INCLUDING New Zealnders and Aussies.

Yes, we did lose out sometimes due to not seeding our best men. PC was always a force around Wembley and he would have been a real contender in the '78 final.

It was in a sense an Olympics where one or two of those missing have been remembered.

There was a film based on this jewish athletes life made

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gretel_Bergmann

Hmmm, can't quite help thinking the 1936 Olympics are remembered more as the Jesse Owens Olympics than the Olympics Gretel Bergmann missed!

Well quite.... who's Gretel Bergmann?

I do know now, but only after clicking on the link (I hadn't seen the film).

So last week Darcy promised us a statement this week or next (that being last week or this week). Where is this statement? What a joke. You'd think after the moaning about the FIM delay that Darcy and his crew would be keen to show them how its done!

He can't/won't give a statement until FIM have given their 'full reasoning' in their own statement, which according to the often quoted FIM rule should be within 45 days of the hearing, so we've got til Sunday for the FIM to issue theirs first. Then DW has 21 days to appeal or not.

So why promises a statement this week or next (last week or this week) if he couldn't? And the 45 days is the current rules, the rules that are relevant say "reasonable time" so they could take another few weeks in theory.

Your original statement Rob was "no-one remembers the losers or those that dropped out"..........I just pointed out a film was made about one.In fact a documentary was also made about her :P Now if you had said you don't remember losers or people who have dropped out then I couldn't disagree :t:

I'd say that wins the Gold Medal for Pedantry.

A 'reasonable time' applies to both then presumably?! Either way I doubt DW will issue a statement until he gets the FIM's 'full reasoning', either in a public announcement of their adjudication or in a prior notice to Darcy.

Nice to see the '45 days' now being referred to as irrelevant - shame you didn't step in earlier in the thread.

But remember, they are not Darcy Ward/Poole haters.:D:P

So sadly no-one will remember me. ;)

Banned from where? It can't be the BSF as your Posts seem to be appearing. Or is this jest in regard to Darcy Ward, the FIM, etc?
