There is an article in Swedish about Darcy : http://www.mvt.se/sport/speedway/?articleid=10070558

According to Tony Olsson who have been in contact with FIM, the FIM jury (there lawyers and disciplinary department) are currently working on it and will get to a decision

as soon as possible. FIM are aware of that Darcy's Swedish team have a meeting tonight and Tony Olsson thinks there will be decision taken today.

I think 8 months would be a bit to little since it would not have any meaning since he would do the surgery and then be back in time for next years season.

He would have a ban but how much racing would he miss? Hardly any.

BUT would he be in the SGP?

Regarding Stefan Danno:

He failed the breath test for the GP held at Bydgoszcz on September 23th, 2000 (the one where Mark Loram secured the World title).

And then there's this:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/speedway/3004173/Speedway-Eastbourne-seeking-Screen-replacement.html

"One candidate is already on Eastbourne's books: Stefan Danno, the Swede whose international ban for failing an alcohol test expires at the end of next month [May 2001]. Cook, however, has ruled out a move for Tomasz Gollob, Ipswich's Polish grand prix rider who has remained in his homeland this season."

So it was 8 months between offence and being able to ride again.

All the best

Rob

If you take this as an isolate incident, it's bad. His fellow riders should be pssed off at him, his sponsors, mechanics, the GP organisers & fans ditto. But it's forgivable, he's a young kid, obviously a bit ruff around the edges, we all make mistakes.

However this isn't an isolated incident and the fact of the matter is, if he wasn't a very good speedway rider, he'd of been banned or in prison by now. I don't think he'll recieve any punishment that's too drastic, his clubs all want him, the GP series want him and to be fair a lot of fans want to see him ride. However, the biggest pusnishment is, while he continues down this same path he'll never fufill his potential & when he's older he'll realize that was the biggest punishment ever. Other then that fella clumping him over the bonce last year of course...

Come on - he is 22 years old. He is NO LONGER a kid - he is a man. He needs to take responsibility for his actions. He also needs to be treated just the same as any other Rider would be.

We cannot go on for ever using the 'just a young kid' excuse. That may have been right a few years ago - it certainly isn't now.

Ward (just like his British club) seems to revel in this victim role. Its always someone elses fault and everyones out to get them. He needs to accept he's in the wrong here and seek the help he needs, and people like Middleditch need to stop handling him with kid gloves.

To be fair, I think Matt Ford was fairly critical the other winter when he got into trouble, it was Middlo who should have been critical but actually tried to suggest it was childish high jinks.

Of course I am not sure what goes on at his other clubs, if they are taking a hard line.

Darcy obviously doesnt take what he does on the track seriously if he would jeopardise himslef and others while racing.

Even everyones favourite (!!!) Nicki P admitted on Fifth Gear when he was trying to teach Vicki Butler-Henderson to ride that he hadnt had a drink since New Years Day so obviously he takes his sport seriously.

Agree there needs to be a ban and maybe just maybe he will learn from this.

Correct. Matt Fords comments/advice are available to read here

Krysztof Cegielski made an interesting point in his column on a Polish website.

He says that too many younger riders today treat speedway with the same approach as do participants in 'extreme' sports. He says that riders in a professional sport should act more responsibly and consider their opponents more.

As well as respecting him as the spokesperson for Polish riders, you have to listen when that opinion comes from an ex-rider in a wheelchair.

He obviously didn't think he was still intoxicated!

He was so right in criticising Nicki who has been a danger to others on track forever!

Which just proves a personst judgement is impaired by alcohol.

As for your 2nd point, it has no relevance to this incident

I disagree. Darcy shouldn't have been drinking at all and he should also have realized that too much alcohol too close to a meeting would make him intoxicated the day after.

He doesn't need to be intoxicated to injure someone.

Lol I wasn't the one who brought up Pedersen, couldn't let a chance go by though ha

Would you know if you still had alcohol in your system, I wouldn't .... it would probably shock us all if we gave ourselves breath tests for a day after drinking?
