How often, say from 2011 have you watched Ward live, truth!

live as in at the track about 4. on tv probably about another 40 plus times.

im slightly biased my family used to sponser a young Mark from the age of 14 so travelled all over the place watching him. Used to overtake for fun at all levels and only once did I see him get it wrong when he knocked Rickardsson off in a gp once.

For sheer talent I would have Mark above Darcy but I would possibly have Lee above them both.

You expect Gavan to tell you that...

just did so keep quiet im talking to adults

Emil finished 3rd in the 2009 GP-series and would have been at least 2nd in 2013, hadn't Miedzinski fenced him. Then Emil also is the reigning Europeans champion

so it is obvious that Emil have the better merits then a "talent" who have only one junior titles.

You keep saying this.. the 'mega tough' old NL.

What was mega tough about it? It was a league full of journeyman. The current PL is stronger.

The Hackney side of 88 would smash anything todays PL has to offer, and most EL sides I shouldn't wonder.

Swindon visited that year, Nilsen, Karger and Silver included, and we beat them easily.

you cant say that mate, there are some very precious Darcy fans on here who believe he is the greatest rider around.

Darcy Ward is a sublime talent but at the moment he is not in Emils league

I first watched Mark ride in 87 at Hackney, yep even from back then i followed him with great interest. Was at Pfaffenhofen in 92 when he had the run off with Leigh Adams, was at Exeter the night he got the track record (think that still stands ?) was at Bydgoszcz in 2000 when he was World champion. Best ever fom the back, one could argue all day long, but he is right up ther. Joe Screen, Collins, Morton, even Olsen in the early 70s was memorable from the back. Most talented, for me personally, i've been lucky, fortunate enough, call it what you may, but watched Gollob ALL over Poland, i used to make every home match to Ipswich to watch him ride! For me no one better from the back than Gollob. Yes i rate Ward very very highly. I was screaming to people in 2010 about Nick Moriss saying he must be a potential world champion, good but not as good as i thought he would be. I started the topic this year on Lambert, & not everyone agreed with me, but now EVERY one is talking about him! But for me ther is one rider, if he continues improving the way he is, IMO will go on to be better than ALL i've mentioned is Brady Kurtz!

You like myself are a huge Gollob fan, some people laughed at how i could rate him higher than Pedersen but i certainly do.Some of his moves over the years at Bydgoszcz have been breathtaking just a shame he only won one title but i suppose some other greats never won the top prize so he didn't do to badly.COLLINS has to be the best rider i ever see come from the back,at Hyde Rd he was sublime he was one of a few with Crump,Jansson,(ect) that could put it up to Mauger/Olsen.At Hyde Rd he missed the gate regularly but rode lines that no other rider could ride a real racer class a LEGEND. BRIGGO was pretty special at Hyde Road ... six successive BLRC titles at a time when the line-up was significantly stronger than the World Final that traditionally preceded it by a week or two. One of BB's greatest achievements in my opinion.

Mauger was a bit special around Hyde Road!

Yeah, but they also smashed anything the NL ad to offer that year, so not really a fair comparison.

I could quote Cradley of 1983 as a yardstick for how strong the top flight is, but it's not a fair comparison. For every Cradley 83 there has to be a Swindon 83.

I think the PL nowadays is stronger than the NL was - certainly in the 1970s when Michael Lee was in it.

Back then, as soon as riders became half decent they would move up into the British League, but now they seem to stay down.

Riders like Nick Morris and Craig Cook would never be riding in the lower flight then. It's even debateable if Robert Lambert would still be there.

T.Owen,Lawson,Jackson (ex) did a spell at Wolves a great NL rider didn't go full time and there are a few others who preferred to be a big fish in that sphere.

Spot on and he helped Ashby get second one year also.

BUT, of course, back then there were so many more top flight fixtures and no financial need for riders to double up.

you could argue that the regular racing has helped Lambert progress this year, he won't need to double up for much longer after this season.

however riders like Cook will as they've found there level
