Maybe but as things stand he has done nothing within speedway that will make him stand out in 20years time

I think he will,if he is strong knuckles down he will be a force for as long as he wants to be.Saying that the era now is very strong and i was totally wrong about that, not to worry we can all be wrong.!! In Ward's era i would say Emil, Hancock, Tai, Iversen,Pedersen, Laguta,Holder, and maybe Pawlicki are my stand out riders and a couple of those are not in the Gps anyway so he can still make up for lost time.

yes, and ditto olsen with eric from 84 onwards.

Wasn't Hans sidelined a bit by the Olsen/Gundersen team?Thinkin about the England -Denmark tests when Nielsen was only reserve in the Danish team.Seem to recall something Erik said about this that is was a bit unfair on Hans. This was why Hans got Ivan in his camp to try to balance thing up against Erik/Ole.......sure Rob will know more about it all though,if I have it wrong

It was the fact that Erik had the personal arrangement with Ole Olsen while Ole was Danish team manager that Hans had the issue with. It escalated to the point where Ole didn't even select Hans for the a test match at Coventry (he did name him as non riding reserve)

The whole thing seemed to get a little silly later on, in the media anyway, when it seemed as if it was Ivan and Ole fighting for a world title rather than the two riders

I agree it all got a bit silly, but the thing was, both riders maintained their focus on winning.Although Erik regretted the rift,he did tell me he would do it all again. That is what makes a winner. It was also interesting hearin a speech Arnold Schwarznegger made over the weekend in Hamburg. He said to people not to listen to the 'nay-sayers'.People who tell you you can't do that....he was often told as an Austrian he had no chance breaking into the American elite of bodybuilding, but did.And was then told he had no chance as a bodybuilder with a strange accent breaking into Hollywood, but he did.On the other hand I think the opposite is maybe more of a problem. Those who tell you,you can do it and are so talented etc. When things come all so easily it is easy to take your eye off the ball.Lindbäck went off the rails under Muddlo and now Darcy seems to be going the same way.We might end up looking back at another great talent who wins nothing or nowhere near what his talent could achieve. It could well be that someone like Arthur Sissis, who also has talent, but has hit problems fairly early might end up achieving more.It took both Ivan and Hans a good while before they gained a title and they knew they had to work to get to the top, whereas Lee got there fairly easily and fell from grace, just as easily

Ah 20 years time, that'll be years after MF has given up on Poole and the Pirates have returned to the hapless also rans of yesteryear ;):t:

You wish.

A difference? Darcy Ward whatever his problems wants to stay in British speedway this coming season. Not so Tai Woffinden...!

He only decided to ride for Team GB as he couldn't get in the Aussie squad.

I take it you refer to Tai Woffinden? Or have I misunderstood you? But your response looks pretty obvious IMO.

Also when you say Tai Woffinden are you referring to the 2013 World Champion, ex of Wolves or have I again misunderstood.

IT made great newspaper copy at the time, even in England. There was certainly no love lost between Erik and Hans for a long time which continued even after Nielsen won for the first time in 1986 in somewhat controversial circumstances, having given Tommy Knudsen a rough time when they met.

If anything it escalated after Katowice. If I recall Erik was rather scathing of the way Hans passed (rode right through) Tommy Knudsen. Didn;t he liken him to a stock car racer.

Am I right in saying that Hans wasn't selected in the Danish team, arranged to ride a meeting on the continent at which point Ole picked him as a non-riding reserve meaning he couldn't take the big money meeting on the continent without getting a ban?
