scribbler
You don't have to look back... Just compare the careers of Darcy and Tai. One -Tai - has committed himself to the sport and has a good work ethic - and coped with the death of his father. He became Speedway World Champion. What has Darcy achieved?

Darcy Ward whatever his problems wants to stay in British speedway this coming season. Not so Tai Woffinden...! What has Ward achieved, 2X World under 21 champion, won a GP & yet to finish a season in the GPs. So hardly not a bad record is it!!

customhouseregular
You are quite possibly correct sommelier, but then again he would not be the first bright star to disappear from the sky.

Ah 20 years time, that'll be years after MF has given up on Poole and the Pirates have returned to the hapless also rans of yesteryear
Ghostwalker
It will also be interesting to see how the Swedish federation Svemo interprets the FIM decision about erasing Darcy's results between the Latvian GP and the day that he was suspended. He rode in one meeting scoring 6p from 4 heats. His current average is 2,100 (126p from 60 heats) if his points from this meeting are removed the new average should be 2.143 (120p from 56 heats).

Just for a moment there - I thought you were mad - until I realised it was per Race.
waiheke1
It's not always the case. Did Hans Nielsen or Erik Gundersen go off the rails at any point? Did they even need any mentoring?clearly not always the case, but there is certainly an argument that there were otgers from their generation as or more talented who achieved only a fraction of what they did. Certsinly both were ultra professional, and both had a mentor (mauger and olsen respectively).

I really don't think the FIM can legitimately make that happen. As far as I can make out, Darcy was still licensed at the time, therefore riding within the rules, and that seems to be about the end of any authority they have over telling SVEMO or the BSPA to remove his points. Still waiting to be proved wrong though, and hope we get some official clarification from the respective bodies.

Thought Mauger only 'mentored' Nielsen from about 1986 onwards when he was still trying to win his first World title.
phillipsr
I believe Ward in 20 years time will have many titles to his name! Maybe but as things stand he has done nothing within speedway that will make him stand out in 20years time
OveFundinFan
I am sure he has many titles to his name now - and not all earned on the speedway track.
