There are too many riders going on the lash after a meeting even though they will be riding the next evening and even worse they will more than likely be driving their vans while still under the influence of alcohol and contrary to belief it not always the Aussies who are to blame and during my time as a medical officer I have advised many riders of all nationality's that if they are riding or driving within the next 24 hours then to refrain from drinking as they could well be over the limit if caught driving by the police or made the subject of a random alcohol test before the meeting and that if they failed either test then it would impact on their career as a speedway rider and I must admit that the few riders who have told me to "F" off and mind my own business have mostly been Brits.

I am still of the belief that there are not enough random tests for alcohol & drug abuse before domestic meetings, I have offered my services in this field for expenses only. But told that there was not a need for it in British speedway but if some of the people with the BSPA, the ACU & the SCB would take off their blinkers then we could have this problem resolved within the next few years

I DID enquire about this and the answer was that they are awaiting the official word from the FIM which still wasn't forthcoming as of this afternoon.

Doesn't really explain why the reason for Ward's disqualification on Sunday wasn't mentioned.

any idea when it will be as at the moment he looks like got away with it

its causing a lot of ill feeling with other riders as well which isn't good

The people choosing to bury their head in the sand and pretend that there isn't a problem ! Why doesn't that surprise me ?

Anyone who's not wet behind the ears knows what the Aussies are like. I've been at a GP in Poland before where I've witnessed Jason Doyle get thrown out of a bar for eating plants after going around 4/5 tables, putting all the left overs in a glass & knocking it back. A couple of other Aussie riders as well were out of their faces. Doyle was riding next day. It's not uncommon.

Ward obviously had a big old session the night before and got caught out. Tough luck, accept your punishment.

The lad seems a bit of a prat so won't learn whatever punishment he gets, but the few defending him on here is laughable. You only have to listen to his excuses to see he doesn't give a sh*t. Wasn't hydrated enough? Hahaha

Doyle got done for drink driving a few years back too and tried to use some excuse of being chased and so afraid he had to drive away! :o I don't think the police took that as a mitigating circumstance for his actions.

I'm not disputing that but they were different times. I was just pointing out what those brave lads did at the same age as Darcy. Probably shouldn't have made that comment but the sight of those planes made me very very proud and somewhat emotional.

Well said Star Lady.

Me too.

Bearing in mind Darcy Ward's disqualification in Sunday's Latvian Grand Prix round for alleged alcohol breach how is it that he has NOT been suspended from ALL Speedway meetings both in the UK and Europe until a disciplinary hearing has been held . It makes the whole of Speedway look like a "Mickey a Mouse" sport. An athlete is banned straight away. Speedway is a dangerous sport and the disciplinary code should be enforced without fear or favour to any rider in the sport of a Speedway. I would suggest that the respective a Promoters both in the UK and Sweden should give their decisions some thought. I agree innocent until proven guilty but Speedway should take their own swift action in these matters, fortunately not a common occurrence!.

Any publicity is good publicity and think what you want about Ward but speedway can ill afford to lose one of its stars at this present time.

speedway can afford to lose anyone who is either on drugs or over the alcohol limit. The way you talk you make it sound like because Ward is in the top 10 in the world we should treat him differently!

If you agree he's innocent until proven guilty, why would you want him banned now when he's still innocent?
