Does it work like that? I understood that you started losing the unit an hour 1 hour after your first drink so in your example 3 of those 12.5 units would have been gone by midnight.

If I drunk 12 pints between midday and midnight it wouldn't take a day and a half to clear my system would it?

No because the first pint (2.5 units) will start disappearing from your body within an hour and will be totally gone 2.5 hours later. By midnight a number of those 12 pints will already be clear of your system. It isn't a precise science, it depends a lot on the person but in that scenario I would personnally leave the car alone the next day altogether unless I had a speedway GP to ride in, in which case I would be on my way within an hour or two.

Ok lets try this. He's not the place a beautiful helen is from.

Oh damn you've gone and ruined it now. I was feeling really pleased with myself because I'd got it from the first clue and now you've given the game away. :D

That's what I was trying to say, so in your example of 5 pints we would probably be talking nearer 9:30am to be clear not midday.

Personally I wouldn't drive after 1 pint as I feel slightly impaired but I normally feel fine by midday the next day even after a session.

I don't offer this as any defence for Ward but to read some of the comments on here you would think he was rolling drunk and liable to be causing carnage on the track.

Yes it was unacceptable and all avoidable risk should rightly be removed but I would suggest that trying to hang on to a speedway bike when carrying a major injury is more of a risk to rider & fellow competitors than a small amount of alcohol from the night before but that happens all the time.

I await to be slaughtered and of course I can see the moral difference between the 2 scenarios but you are either putting fellow competitors at risk or not.

To drink before an event is extremely irresponsible and he deserves all he gets but as in the Eddie Kennet silencer thing he was just the one that got caught not the only one to have ever done it.

Hopefully this will serve as a wake up to both him and other riders that like the party lifestyle!

Bull to you too! The length of ban and fine will depend on how much you are over the limit! And whether anyone was injured! I don't think you understand justice mate!

In one post you say the tariff depends on whether it is premeditated or not then when people point out how stupid that is you start saying it depends on how much you are over the limit and whether anyone is injured. The latter is partly correct but it has nothing to do with being premeditated, which is the point Bwitcher was answering before you changed your ground.

As has been said the rules of sport do not necessarilyy reflect criminal law but taking your drink driving analogy the very least punishment is likely to be a fine and a 3 month ban so even on that basis Ward ought to be sat on the Naughty Seat for at least 3 months.

The FIM must`ve had their report by now, presumably any ban will be announced in the next week or so before the GP in Gorzow.

If the ban is on the lenient side I think this forum will explode off the face of the earth. :D

Rightly so.

It will be perceived that he is being treated as D'Arcy Ward - GP Rider - when he should be treated the same as any other SPEEDWAY Rider.

In the context anyone, over the age limit, can legally buy booze, to use a tampered silencer in speedway, illegal. To use dope, hashish whatever name you call it, is illegal, in most countries, whether while riding speedway under the influence or a social user. I rest my case!

You can down a litre of whisky at any given time when over the age limit, but you must face the consequences of doing so, and they might be illegal. For instance: Drinking before driving, no matter how many hours inbetween last drink and the turn of the key, and not getting rid of the alcohol in your blood is illegal no matter if the booze is legal.

Darcy blew it (no pun intended) and must face the punishment. Letting him ride pending the judgement is ridiculous.

the difference being you dont need skill balls or talent to play soccer. Anyway ward has broke the rules and a ban is a must

Nonsense. Dont knock another sport or fellow sportsmen for the sake of it or to make a point. Blazaway makes a very good point I spent my childhood playing sports and aspired be one day be good enough but sadly wasn't Football cricket Rugby etc are all top sports and only the cream rise to the top why knock them? Darcy has my sympathy he is a very brave young man participating in a sport thousands of miles away from home, he is a disaster waiting to happen and i hope his talent shines through one day

I don't think anyone would argue with that.

However - he needs to GROW UP fast.

Imo FIM needs to take a look at their own rules and perhaps do a total makeover.

1. Any rider getting caught with any forbidden substance in their system (or illegal equipment) should by default receive a temporary ban during while

the investigation is ongoing. It should not matter what substance it is or if it is doping or alcohol or drugs. Now Dudek is suspended but Ward is not and

Wards offense is much worse. It just shows that there is a huge difference if your name is Darcy Ward or Patryk Dudek.

2. Then there should be pre-defined penalty rate for all of the possible rule violations so that the penalties will be applied automatically.if riders is found guilty.

Like if a rider is caught with a tampered silencer, he will automatically receive 6 months suspension (lex Eddie Kennett), getting caught with stimulant substance (like Dudek) 1 year suspension.

Getting caught with an alcohol level i,e. between 0,10mg/litre exhaled air and 0,30mg/litre exhaled air 1 year suspension.

Over 0,30mg/litre exhaled air 2 years suspension+compulsory "community service". +a medical certification that the rider have been sober

for a specified amount of times (like the last 6 months of the suspension) before he can have his license back.

Obviously intention to ride while intoxicated should be considered a more major offence then tampering with a silencer or using a minor doping substance.

The point is that that every rider gets the same punishment for the same offence if FIM had a standardized penalty rate (straffsats in Swedish).,

daft statement

rider fails breath test but because he is just about in the top 6 riders in the world and admittedly a crowd pleaser we should treat him differently!!

Get a grip. The reason why the thread is so long is because of the Darcy lovers failing to see any wrong doing and feeling he shouldnt get banned.

hard sometimes dirty yes

professional with his routine .............totally

Ward isnt fit to be mentioned in the same sentence as Nicki with regards to attitude

Pedersen is a three time world champion who is no where near my all time top 20 because of the way he goes about things.Zagar showed him for what he really is a bully who when taken on backs off a on top bully.Crump was tough Ricko was tough Tai can be tough but they were FAIR a massive difference.I have most of the GPS footage and if you look back over the years how many incidents has he been involved in endless times to be honest he has got away with murder. In there day he would not of lasted two minutes with the likes of Crump senior,Wilkinson,Jack Millen,Sanders,Browning they would of all out bullied him. I can't believe the Ward sycophants on here, it's truly unbelievable. He's not a little boy lost, he's a grown man. A grown man who is a professional sportsman in a dangerous sport and the fact that he does the things he does - drink, drugs to name two - shows that he's immature and irresponsible beyond words and has scant respect or consideration or for his racing peers. Had he not been caught, he would have happily raced a lethal weapon at 70 plus mph sideways in close proximity with three other racers, who would have been blissfully unaware that one of their opponents was racing with reactions less than razor sharp as he was under the influence.

Before anyone says the amount over the limit should be taken into consideration, that's cobblers. It is proven that alcohol in your blood slows your reactions. What a great idea that is whilst racing speedway. What a dullard.

As I said in a previous post, the punishment should be severe, no matter who he is. The fact that he is high profile should be of no influence one way or the other. Sadly, that he is high profile, racing in the UK for the club he does and with the sponsor he has, he will probably be let off with a slapped wrist.

If on the other hand, justice is served and he gets a long ban and decides to walk away from the sport, so be it. It can do without someone who turns up to race in that condition. They wouldn't accept it in any other Motorsport, so why should we in speedway?

Excellent post Dave..

It's not an anti Darcy thing, it's about not riding with too much alcohol in your bloodstream, thus endangering the life of yourself and the lives of others.. :t:

You really are a nasty little man aren't you Oldace. A bitter and twisted nobody with a huge chip on his shoulder. Well, I will leave this thread now, as it appears even the Moderator is part of this little Clique of 'put downers'!

You're not wrong about the first part, but you really need to rethink your comments re Darcy, Ray.

Oh damn you've gone and ruined it now. I was feeling really pleased with myself because I'd got it from the first clue and now you've given the game away. :D

As the Bard would say- To Be or not TB.

For those that insist on comparing this to a drink/driving case or other domestic legal situation, here's a quote from the Preface to the FIM Anti-Doping Rules, nee WADA Code, with my emphasis;

"Anti-Doping Rules, like Competition rules, are sport rules governing the conditions under which sport is played. Riders and other Persons accept these rules as a condition of participation and shall be bound by them. These sport-specific rules and procedures, aimed at enforcing anti-doping principles in a global and harmonized manner, are distinct in nature and, therefore, not intended to be subject to or limited by any national requirements and legal standards applicable to criminal proceedings or employment matters. When reviewing the facts and the law of a given case, all courts, arbitral tribunals and other adjudicating bodies should be aware of and respect the distinct nature of the anti-doping rules in the Code and the fact that these rules represent the consensus of a broad spectrum of stakeholders around the world with an interest in fair sport."

For those that say he was only a little bit over the limit and thus should be treated more leniently, here's another quote from the same source that appears a couple of times with, again, my emphasis;

"It is each Rider’s personal duty to ensure that no Prohibited Substance enters his or her body. Accordingly, it is not necessary that intent, fault, negligence or knowing Use on the Rider’s part be demonstrated in order to establish an anti-doping rule violation for Use of a Prohibited Substance or a Prohibited Method."
