Coventry Vs Swindon 18/8/14

Recommended Posts

The clock comes with the Sky television team. It came along to Leicester when they came there and we had a couple of 2 min exclusions there. It should be made a must at all tracks and then they should stick to the rule as at The Lions the riders come out the pits at thier liesure. I know Stead was excluded when he was on the track by the pit gate and his machanic was messing about with his bike.

These days the riders are just taking to long to get to the gate and settle before a race. We have all moaned about it on here, so when a ref finally puts his foot down to stop it then folks moan again. Lets have the same rule on all our tracks. If the riders can't abide by it then they are out of the race full stop.

As for the track it looked very much like tracks of old with lots of dirt, the problem was that the riders just didn;t know how to ride on a surface like that, they have gotten so used to tracks being as flat and slick as a billard table, where they open the trottle full open and tear around the track, that when they tried to do this on the track last night they came to grief.

Even then, they didn't try to alter there riding style to suit the track conditions and race it with the skill that what needed, maybe because the said riders had never riden on these sort of tracks and didn,t know what to do to allow them to get past the 3rd bend.

All it showed to me was riders today have lost an awful lot of the skill that is needed to ride a speedway bike. All they know how to race a track is to go go full pelt from the gate and do the same all the way around. Perhaps they should prepare more tracks with lots of dirt and train them how to ride around them. Then we might see better more competative racing.

Does Coventry's pursuit of points justify the dumb interview by Havelock on Sky talking as if everything was ok with thousands of viewers knowing different. Come on, the points were being won on the track - let us have an honest interpretation on the referees blunders, as Peter Adams of Wolves would have done.

But Bachelor was not the only one having problems with track. Why single him out for critiscm ?

because he moaned about it like a big jessie. Christ even laid it down like a novice early on.

Steve Worrall moaned about the track but said its the same for everyone.

Dakota North, Simon Gustafsson all said track was poor but at least tried.

Bit more effort from a Grand Prix star and Swindon may have got something

I am a neutral and support speedway rather than a team.

Having watched last night's meeting, I think things have been blown out of hand.

Yes the ref did make some silly early exclusions at the gate, although how many of us have moaned on here before about riders wasting time at the gate and hating them going back in to the pit after a re start.

However the exclusions for Morris touching the tapes in heat 1, exclusions for Nathan, Troy & Worrall falling off due to not being positioned correctly and then the exclusion for Morris causing the crash would have all been the same regardless of which ref or what track.

after the first few heats it was no longer about the ref and more about the teams. When I have visited Brandon a couple of times this season the track has been a lot better than last night but personally it has not looked the worst track I have seen this year and was capable of producing some good racing.

I think it wasn't the track but the attitudes of the teams that stood out for me.

This is just my personal opinion but to me Swindon were poor last night (with exception of North & Simon) They were out done on the night and because of this and being shown up on the night, they had to make a bigger fuss about the track and the ref than needed. They seem to be missing any team bond which is very important in speedway. Batchelor doesn't like to ride on dusty track last night but has also complained on tv this year about having to ride on wet, slick, grippy or bumpy track when losing so what is it he wants? I have seen some good meetings by Swindon this year but was very disappointed by their negativity last night.

Lets hope they get it sorted before their next meeting.

Coventry seem to be getting better and have been impressed with them each time I have seen them home or away this year. They had 4 riders carrying injury (you could tell Jason was in agony) but they came together as a team, motivated and supported each other. I have liked their never give in attitude this year. Hope they make the play offs as looking good along with King's Lynn and Poole.

Haven't you got some Poole riders or management to go and have a bitch about?

Coventry have every chance of honours this year, principally down to having such good reserves. Many people said it at the start of the year but it makes a huge difference to have someone down there with a near 7 point average. The teams with poor reserves are generally at the bottom end of the league.

Let's hope these 'good reserves' are present for the remainder of the matches then because it's rather a problem with Jason missing so many.

Haven't coventry had Garrity missing for most of their meetings so far though and had to use a lower order reserve to replace him, so the top 5 must have been riding well too

I think Bees have had 24 EL meetings so far. According to the Bees site, Garrity has ridden 16 EL meetings and Sarjeant 18 - Harris, Andersen & Hansen have also only ridden 18, so no, not most.

Well done Coventry, I personally really enjoyed the meeting,No point moaning about the Ref, If the 2 mins is on get your butts to the gate if not your out when the 2 mins expires, whats the problem...!!! Its really not difficult. The riders seem to mess about more and more and take longer and longer to get to the gate and the meetings get dragged out and the atmosphere dwindles in the stadium, not that there were many there last night. Next point being was it me or did MJJ look completely disinterested last night, this was the only real downside to the performance barring of course the knocks Garrity and Hansen picked up, hopefully nothing serious. The other thing that really got up my nose was Batchelor, what an arsehole, get on with it you whinging Aussie twit. Swindon may have done better if their top rider put abit of effort in....!!!! Anyway another top result, Keep it up, I'm even becoming able to tolerate Havelock who's comments on tv when I got back and watched it amused me.

Me too! :D

The 2-minute clock is a big red herring!! The klaxon and flashing amber pit light should be enough for everyone. Any decent team manager will use a stop watch as soon as the klaxon sounds.

The issue is why the ref disqualified riders when they were on track and ready to race, and why he didn't also disqualify MJJ?!

Tonight's Swedish meeting was boring (while it lasted)..

And you could certainly argue that last night's 'car crash' TV was far more entertaining..

Actually that's true , i turned over to the football , but was drawn back to the Coventry pantomime like a ghoul slowing down to ogle at a car accident on the motorway .

Very true , the last few heats were actually not bad . Especially once Harris used his grasstracking experience .
