Rye House 2015

Recommended Posts

Still no news, as the late lamented Bob Hoskins said in the Long Good Friday "nobody knows nuthin it aint normal"

Come on Shadders give us a clue

Been down to the stadium a few times over the past week, no sign of any of the rumoured development work. All very quiet, too quiet for my liking. Edited by Shads

Rumours rumours and yet more rumours. The one I am hearing more and more is that this is Lens last season. Assuming it is lets hope the old fells builds a team to befit his send off.

Roynon at reserve with greenwood and kennet and garrity with a proper second heat leader would be a great start.

Will be interesting to see what happens at Rye House after Uncle Len retires from promoting!

We all know he's a contankerous old codger who won't delegate but without his financial input and knowledge Rye House likely would have never reopened at Hoddesdon in 2000!

After he sold Rye House at the end of 1985 to Ronnie Russell, the club saw a slow but sure decline until the 1993 closure!

Hopefully Rye House speedway will be around for many years after Len Silver!

Catch up everybody, these rumours are all about 3 or 4 weeks old.

Anybody got anything new ? ))

The real truth will be found out during and after next weeks promoter conference.

For what its worth, the one I heard was a lot more drastic than those mentioned above ))

Latest press release says

Rockets Build Towards 2015

The 2015 season may still be a full five months away but preparations are already well underway for the new campaign.

Team building work for the new season has been going on quietly, with promoter Len Silver and team manager John Sampford already able to name three proposed starters. The first piece of good news is that former World Cup star and 2014 Mr Rocket rider of the year Edward Kennett will be returning to Hertfordshire for a second straight term, with Cardiff Grand Prix Wildcard Jason Garrity also heading back to Hertfordshire. Silver admits that There are several permutations for the rest of the team, all of which are dependent on a work permit for Tyson Nelson, whose inclusion or otherwise dictates the final seven, subject of course to any changes to team-building limits agreed at this coming weekends BSPA annual conference. The young Aussie was absent from Britain this year due to issues in that regards, leaving a late hole that helped to propel the Rockets towards an unwanted wooden spoon position in the Premier League.

The Premier is set to be one of two leagues in which the Hertfordshire club is set to compete in 2015. Subject to final ratification from the council of promoters in Britains third tier, the Rye House Raiders will also be joining the National League. This will not only help to provide a natural next step for young talent coming through the weekly training schools staged at Hoddesdon but ensure a full and regular home meeting schedule through 2015.

Talking of which, Bank Holiday Mondays will return as a racing day for the Rockets next season to augment the regular race day of Saturday which has been in place for the last thirteen years.

Silver has also announced a number of stadium improvements planned for this winter. The first of these is improved lighting, with Silver admitting that The installation of the air fence has resulted in some dark patches on the circuit, so a number of our floodlight lampposts are being moved nearer to the track in the corners. The first of the posts were taken out this past week and it has demonstrated that the job is quite massive and will take a number of weeks to complete. Some of the steep track banking has also been removed - although you wouldn't notice it to look at it!

Interesting. The lighting needed to be improved and the move back to BH Monday meetings is welcome. Happy to see Edward back and I must admit I'm surprised to see Jason return. I hope he gives the Rockets 100%.

I hope that they don't wait too long for Nelson to sort his visa out, otherwise we'll be scrambling around looking for a replacement like last time.

A positive start to team building.

I don't suppose this refers to the camber on turn 1!!

You'd certainly notice if that had been removed

Agree with everything Shadders says. Positive start to the team building as long as Garrity shows the same positivity as his time with Coventry. Nelson needs to have his work permit in place by mid January or forget him and use the points elsewhere. A big hitter to help out Edward is also surely top of the list (No one from last year fits the bill). Oliver Greenwood surely did enough for a reserve berth in 2015. For me that would be a great start.

The stadium needs a tidy up no doubt about it and if the 2015 season is the last with Len in total control I would not be surprised if JC moves from Arena. He and Len as Co Promoters would work just fine. Far too many uncertainties at Arena with the owner, sponsors and future for the raceway. Jon would be hands on and he is a voice in Speedway that I have a lot of respect for. As for being in the Elite? Well 2016 is a long way off for that league and there is no way a weekend track in the Elite is viable and I can't imagine mid week racing at Rye. All that said I feel a bit better about next season than I did in mid September
