Ommer Mon
In a league that is meant to be used by youngsters as a stepping stone to Premier then Elite league racing, It's such a shame that folk would rather see the likes of Lambert, Mason, Compton, Halsey, Armstrong, Starke, Cockle who have all been riding for 5 or more even 10 in some cases at this level rather then support and back the youngsters coming through. This is a big reason why British speedway is dying on it's arse. The youngsters get no backing from the Authorities or the fans. Anyway back to tonights meeting Good Luck to the Stags who will give it 100% no shadow of a doubt. I think you have overlooked the value that this type of rider can bring to the development of the youngsters. Armo was brilliant with the likes of Ash and Tom at Dudley and now Cleggy, Greavesie, Matt and Dan are learning from Paul Starke and Steve Worrall. I'm not advocating filling a team with veterans but to have one or two with the right attributes is very valuable indeed. You have to have a role model on track. If not you end up with what we have at Scunthorpe. And to Lucifer Sam I would just say that it is possible to get a four point average whilst finishing half a lap behind the opposition.
Guest
Just seen the result. Kent Kings would have struggled to find a team to match the quality of their Scunthorpe opponents!
scribbler
Kent Kings R/R = 11 = 1. Adam Sheppard (number 8) DNR... How many years experience of riding do Baseby, Mason and Compton (and Lambert - when he's fit) have between them? I'd rather watch youngsters than has beens. Poor Sheppard - wanting to ride, but having to watch as other riders took extra rides. He could have had experience riding with experienced riders and against riders he may be on par with.

That's the name of the game. Speedway's a hard world - it's not there to spoon feed aspirants to the top. How long do you think Kent Kings would retain a crowd if they turned out a side similar to Scunthorpe? Speedway is obsessed with giving chances to youngsters these days. I recall the time in the 1960s when Bradford and the Middlesbrough fielded Wal Morton and Geoff Pymar who were both past 50 years old. Fans respected them and did not whinge case's for riders like Adam Sheppard to succeed them. Why? Because they appreciated the tactical skills of start gate procedures and creating the speed pace that Morton and Pymar showed in races. They call it quality - gained from experience. Explain what experience Kent management gained of Sheppard's ability to ride in a team.
Triple.H.
With all due respect Gustix you are spouting test-icicles Scunthorpe were always going to get shafted so the No.8 shouldve taken the R/R rides as mentioned by others and myself already. For someone who monitors this forum on an almost constant basis I'd have thought you may have worked out that very sadly teams don't have scratch/reserve and vulture races in the 2nd half. Mores the bloody pity that most clubs don't even have a 2nd half.
Hector Austin
Usual brainwashed few on here man! The NL isn't just a toy for Scunny ya see, who convienentley have Ford backing them and the money from the PL meetings to suport what they do. With a team that scores 30 points a meeting max, and aren't seeming to get any better scores, Scunny are making a profit from this so of course it is a no brainer, keeping up so far BUT! what about the others who pay twice home and away sheds of points money knowing that when Scunny visit their crowds will be down as well, bet my mates at Cradley can tell ya thats true. No surprise hey guys that Cradley and now the Bog Mogs are having Scunny on as the second in a double header hey man! Abuse me all ya want but i is talking da truthAnd I can't see a NL next year unleass the geysers at the BSPA bring in a minimum points limit hey?
jim the whipper
Adam Sheppard is not of a good enough standard to be riding in the National League . he cannot string 2 decent races together in the MDL , so why would any team be throwing opportunities at him ? speedway at this level should not be run on sympathy votes .if you cant cut it you dont get it IMHO. So why name him as the Number 8? The poor nipper must be confused by the management's decision. Good enough to be named - but not good enough to be given the opportunity to actually ride. If he's that poor why name him?
Shadders
Saw Adam ride on Saturday at Rye. Can't believe he's any worse than most of the Scunny riders tonight Adam Sheppard is not of a good enough standard to be riding in the National League . he cannot string 2 decent races together in the MDL , so why would any team be throwing opportunities at him ? speedway at this level should not be run on sympathy votes .if you cant cut it you dont get it IMHO.That would rule out most of the Scunny side Edited August 11, 2014 by Shadders
waco
Result as expected Kent 69,,Scunny 23 ..Crowd though not great was better than expected as was some of the racing Danny Ayres of 15 meters passed everyone to win heat two, and later looked very quick,, he was worth the admission money alone ..His massive improvement in both in pace a and steadiness was the highlight of the meeting for me... I predict that with decent machinery he wiill make a number one at this level next season The lads in the main body of the team were faultless,,as they say you can only beat what,s put in front of you Jason Garrad is still learning as was reflected in his score... As for those clamouring for Shepherd to ride in the meeting,, he had 3 opportunities to ride in the second half and pulled up a mile behind another lad think his name was Cousins not sure ? who looked a far better prospect,, then Shepherd failed to appear for his other two opportunities... For the Stags Aaron Mogridge was worth more points than he got and was the pick of the visitors and has come on a lot since i last saw him ,,Think we have Buxton next week expect another big win from the boys who all had a big confidence boost tonight,,,..

Well said indeed. A comment I endorse. I think it has now been established why Adam Sheppard did not get an rides in the match. But I guess the jungle drums in his favour will keep on sounding. This all casts my mind back to the "Adam Kirby support group" of last season. As a matter of interest: where is Kirby these days? Here's the Adam Sheppard website which carry some observations on Monday's Kings home match against Scunthorpe (a box on the right). Seems he wasn't happy about things. http://www.adamsheppardracing.webs.com/ Edited August 11, 2014 by Guest

waco
Made me laugh Shadders your right of course,, but what was i supposed to call them old men,or ageing lads ,,or maybe big girls,,Jesus what you get picked up on ... I would suggest to Adam Shepherd that slagging off the promotion on his web site is not the way to get future rides at Kent.... but improving performance would be.. There is no obligation to use a no 8 and the management probably wanted to ensure their regular team members had a good pay day to help maintain their bikes...
