Fromafar
I think it would be good to award a bonus point for every heat winner, but not added into to score until after the meeting has finished not to interfere with qualifying points on the night.eg Woffy scores 13 points on the night but had won 3 heats so he gets an extra 3 points on his total after the meeting has finished =16ptsMight make them fight for the heat win instead of settling for 2nd in some instances.Only a suggestion. Mark
I'd cancel practise. Waste of time and expensive. Temporary tracks would benefit.
BWitcher
I'd cancel practise. Waste of time and expensive. Temporary tracks would benefit. If it's such a waste of time, why do the riders do it? Perhaps you should give them your pearls of wisdom? I've no idea why some people think canceling practice will somehow improve the gps. Edited August 10, 2014 by BWitcher
Bavarian
Keep it simple. No extra points/ bonus points etc, please. It is near perfect like is is now. We never had a better system for the SGP. No changes needed. It would only be changes for the worse.
PHILIPRISING
THE downside of practice is the wear and tear on tracks, especially temporary ones. Have those GPs that have gone ahead without practice suffered? Probably not. But practice isn't simply for the riders. It is also useful for those working on the track and at the stadium. Very few riders skip practice altogether so that must tell us something. The hard task, and one still not fulfilled, is trying to get something meaningful out of practice for the media. It's not like F1 of course where practice determines pole position, etc., and even the draw is off very limited use to the written media in particlular. Tim Templeton
I think the current set up is pretty much spot on. The one gripe I do have, is that we are told that there can be no dead heats, even if there is one. Try giving a logical argument to that. It's not like F1 of course where practice determines pole position, etc., and even the draw is off very limited use to the written media in particlular. Then follow in F1's example. Riders have a flying lap; order determined by drawing lots. Rider with the fastest time has first choice of draw number (most likely to go for 1, 5 or 13). Second fastest rider has second pick. Down to 16th rider having whatever is left (no 3 is a bum draw, good chance this could be left). Media then not only has a draw to publish, but also qualifying times. Could create a story, e.g. if there's a surprise top qualifier, how the championship contenders fare against each other, etc. If practice is cancelled, then riders pick in championship order. All the best Rob Edited August 10, 2014 by lucifer sam
Trees
The trouble with speedway is that the track is better at the start so anyone doing an early lap should be quicker.
longlivefrankie
Yes then you have to break up the qualifying sessions as they do in most motor sports, I don't think that issue is any different to weather affected f1 or motogp practice/qualifying
Trees
Having said the above, some trackmen can prepare their tracks (if they have free reign) so the times are the same all the way through meetings :-)
keepturningleft
Can't believe anyone has even started this topic. Don't fix something that isn't broken. The points system should be as simple as possible and the current arrangement is as good as it can get. Remember when we had the 'super 8's' and other ridiculously complicated procedures. Dead heats should be acknowledged and decided by a coin toss. That's a lottery, but major football matches are often decided by the penalty shoot out which is more or less a lottery as well.
