Lakeside V Poole 08/08 Today !

Recommended Posts

Can't believe that no ones started this thread. Bit of obsession with the Benji Compton events I think. Best leave that alone here. :nono:

Could be a tight one but I think I'd be happy with a point tonight.

Main concern is the weather. Terrible forecast predicted all week, and now seemingly improved over the last twelve hours. Any local news guys and gals? Don't want to spend Friday afternoon on the M25 only to have to turn round and come back home again.

Keep an eye out on here, Bryn normally issues weather updates during the day.

Only going to be one winner here and that is the weather, an official weather warning has been issued for potentially heavy thunderstorms with risk of local flooding.

Big rain system already moving up from the south, with more to follow i expect.

10.15am here in Erith 1 mile from the Dartford Crossing:

Had about 10mins of light 'mizzle' an hour ago and currently the sun is trying to break through the high cloud cover overhead. It therefore remains to be seen how the weather situation develops from hereon in especially if you look on the various internet weather sites and look at the IR Satellite and Rain images which show a rain band off the south Irish coast.

I'm sure the Lakeside club will monitor the situation regularly and will update myself here circa 1pm or before in weather changes dramatically.

Just had a huge (though brief) downpour here in Romford. If the track gets two or three of those there's little chance of speedway tonight. I really hope it doesn't as it feels like it's been ages since we had any racing at Arena, even though it's only been a couple of weeks. Sadly, the weather forecast is grim.

Hoping for a Pirates win with a bit fat 0 from Benji.

With your longterm support of the Pirates, are you now the self-appointed president of the Brendan Johnson fan club??! :D

As BJ also rides for Mildenhall are you by any chance also based in the Suffolk/East Anglia area?

Seconded. I know, I want Poole to win, madness :o But I've accepted Lynn and Poole are in the play-offs, for Coventry to make it then it would be nice for Lakeside to drop a few points just to make it one less team getting in our way.

Agree esp with both Lakeside & Swindon dropping away points this week.

Did they really drop points? My take on it is BV, Leciester and Wolves are places you go for points, everywhere else you expect nothing as a general rule. I doubt Lakeside and Swindon ever expected anything from Swindon or Poole.

We went to both Poole & Swindon and got wins though. Swindon have at times struggled at home so not impossible.

After the events of earlier this week, I don't think anybody cares.

Just received this from the club

Hi Vortex Hammers 2014 Season Ticket holders,

Tonight’s meeting against the Poole Pirates is ON and track preparation has been made to protect against the heavy showers, which are forecast to die out as the day progresses.

Hammers Co-Promoter Jon Cook commented “Our track team have an excellent record working in these conditions and as we have a dry evening forecast, it’s all systems go for a must win meeting.”

The next update will be put on the Club's website at 4:30pm.

Fans should note that there will not be pre-meeting Junior racing tonight.

Up the Hammers,

Nope, based on Wimborne Road in Poole! Brendan is a nice enough lad but he will never progress very far as a rider. He looks like a plank of wood on the bike and he hasn't really progressed at all. But, given the choice between Compton and Johnson it would be Johnson as Compton is an illegal rider.

Hi,

I'm bringing a friend to Lakeside tonight who has never been to a live meeting. I have been to this track once before but only stood by the starting tapes. What are people's opinions on the best place to stand at Lakeside for a first timer to pick up the thrill of being at a live meeting?

Thanks!
