orion
A different day different circumstances a different climate simple really, your opinion i hope comes true but i cannot see it.If Leigh was riding today it would be no different better of course but the sport in this country has come to a standstill certainly in the EL. So are you saying that the PL is moving forward ? in what way ?
stratton
And why is that? What's the common theme.. What has been done every year.. and every year its got worse... but you advocate continuing it!The value for money has gone down year by year in the EL,it is a poor product end of.We are light years behind in the standard of our league racing at EL racing level the GP series has alot to answer for on that front to be honest. It amazes me if i am feeling the crunch at home i cut back i don't SPEND more is that not sensible.?If you can come back and give me a inclination of encouragement crowds going up the revenue there then yes take a risk now i suggest most will just hope to survive. orion
Yes, that's true. Â I wonder how many would say that Horton is better than Frost, though ? Depends I dislike Horton like many but as least he saved the club this year ..being liked and saving or making money are two different things . Halifaxtiger
So are you saying that the PL is moving forward ? in what way ? Â I think PL speedway is more sustainable. I'd say its absolutely true to suggest that existing EL clubs would lose fans if they dropped down but not to the extent that they would be worse off than they are now. Â It is a credible option to have one league split geographically (if we can find the riders, that is). Â Dropping to 8 clubs, though, might help the EL to survive particularly if they go to one meeting a fortnight (albeit on different nights).

As pointed out just many pl teams are not very stable and not paying the bills ..not sure why you keep forgetting about this .

I don't dislike him at all - quite the opposite, in fact - but I think you would find it hard to find many that would say that he is a better promoter than Frost. Been tried before it never worked and can't work . You don't just balance the books by cutting costs .

stratton
Nothing wrong with being able to Balance the books ...the trouble is as I get saying by lowering the standard as we have for the 20 years has not balanced the books has it ?No its put clubs in the mire, without the sky money would the EL clubs bar Poole be in a good position?.Your stance is commendable, but unless you can pluck a couple of hundred new supporters out of thin air it does not look good. The worrying thing is the supporters some of them who are die hard who are just not going anymore at least three or four on the Swindon forum who are staunch supporters don't bother anymore that trend is worrying. scribbler
As pointed out just many pl teams are not very stable and not paying the bills ..not sure why you keep forgetting about this . Â Probably because PL don't get Sky money. Without Sky money the EL would probably have to run at the same level as the PL. They're almost there now... And even without it the bigger clubs will always have the better riders

I think that is the whole point, having a plan to entice more supporters to attend races. Everyone keeps debating whether big name riders pull in the crowds, as if that is the answer to speedways problems.  I think speedway needs to think more about promoting the sport.  It is strange that in the UK speedway is such a minority sport compared to say Poland, Sweden, or Denmark, to name three, but we can almost sell out the Millennium Stadium for the British Grand Prix, and put on the biggest speedway sceptical in the world. Why is that?  Mainly I think because it gets good publicity and is held in a stadium that firstly has Kudos in the general public minds, because it is a terrific venue, one that is a joy to go to. Compare that to the Speedway World Cup being held in the UK heats at Kings Lynn, and I say that with the greatest respect to Kings Lynn but it just does not have the same ring about it.  I think the powers to be need to be thinking a lot more about making it an attractive sport to entice more visitors, and that is how the sport looks and feels not just what riders a club has. The point about promoting the sport better has been made for decades but nothing has happened. Also the day out at Cardiff is a one off, chalk and cheese really to our bread and butter league programme.I don't know what the answers are Stephen to be honest i really hope Orion is right in the future fingers crossed eh! Is there a endless pit of money, say you get a crowd of 2000 if you are lucky how can you afford say two big hitters in the same team its seems impossible to me to get better quality in costs proper money and the money coming in does not justify it.
