pvm Posted August 6, 2014 Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 Just watching Boris giving a speech on Europe, and his opening comments were about his recent flight back from Poland sat with a group of British Speedway fans coming back from the SWC. He then mentioned about not knowing what the sport of speedway was until that point, and the fact Team GB came last . Now that he knows about the sport of speedway, and it's fresh in the mind, might it not be a good idea to remind him of former London Teams, and maybe someone from the BSPA to invite him to Cardiff. Excellent idea - so most probably won't happen. Boris has announced today that he's going to stand for parliament in 2015, so maybe the London slant might not be appropriate, but certainly a good idea to invite someone often pictured on two wheels along to our showcase event. The White Knight Posted August 6, 2014 Report Share Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) Some unexpected good publicity for Speedway this morning on BBC News. Boris Johnson was making a Speech and he started by mentioning his trip home from Poland. Actually though he is a Eurosceptic he was giving examples of things that had been beneficial to us by being Members of the EU. Easier travel to Member States was one of his points in favour. He then went on to list other things that he considered less than advantageous. He was flying back from Bydgoszcz Poland at the weekend and he said that he had flown back with a lot of Motorcycle people supporting the Sport of Speedway. He said that they had been over there for the Speedway World Cup and that we finished last. He must have been chatting to them. Whilst not elaborating further I got the impression he had enjoyed the experience. Boris also mentioned that he planned to stand for Parliament at the next Election. Great News for me. I've just noticed that another Thread is running on this - I did check but I missed it.. If one of the Mods could merge my Post in to the original Thread I would appreciate it. Boris doesn't know the meaning of bad publicity Strong talk is of him standing in Uxbridge. Nearest track to there would obviously be Slough. Having seen him at Wembley for American Football I can vouch for the fact that he is a total a**e so would be great PR for speedway. Reform and limitations of the HR's Bill. The right to exclude and deport EU foreigners. Try reading what Boris actually said, and there might be a few clues for you. Until you start reforming, the scope of reform is usually quite fluid. The fact that every ditty isn't written down, doesn't mean cynics like you are right to continue with things that don't work, and are anti population, anti trade and a burden on natural business or the population in general. It's a bit like any attempt to describe Britishness and British culture. They do exist, but would be challenged point by point by folks like you, to try and suggest we are all the same which we are not. The whole point of starting this thread was to get people's opinion as to how best the sport could make use of Boris' new found knowledge of Speedway. The fact that he mentioned the sport of Speedway would suggest that he was left with a positive impression of the fans, and hopefully gained a little bit of knowledge about the sport.
