Fromafar
Should be no Play Offs until every team have played roughly equal amount of meetings Just maybe we should start the season with the league fixtures as it is the main event of the season,or is that too complicated.
crescent girl
Should be no Play Offs until every team have played roughly equal amount of meetings Why? If one team has failed to fulfil fixtures (maybe because of too many deliberately blank nights and/or cancellations for other than weather) why should others' post-season fixture list be messed up? Fromafar
definately,,, Â Â Â looks like they'll be busy then, lol,,, surely 'The Bandits' have done enough so far to qualify,,, They have ,but if they have a bit of bad luck not getting some fixtures in they could finish out of the top 3 which would leave them vulnerable as the top 3 get to pick their opposition from the next 3 (I believe)Ps having just read the rules,it is the Teams that finish 1st and 2nd after the first fixtures get to select the 2 Teams that will be in their section, and the 2 group winners contest the Final to decide Champs. Okay that's fair enough, it was just a thought, how about 2 matches on one night? Or an afternoon and evening match for those that can
The White Knight
Â If that were to happen we would still be going at Xmas. Ergo - NO Play Offs. Â SIMPLES!!! Â It's a Joke. Â You could possibly do Play Offs if ALL Teams had completed their Fixtures - but - the way it works at present is farcical. The League is decided by Weather and a daft System. Â To quote someone else on this Forum: Â "Only in Speedway". Edited August 11, 2014 by The White Knight
spittalbandit
Could see it being a north group and a south group. If as expected edinburgh top financially they would probably prefer local teams ie berwick and either newcastle or worky if that the way it finishes with somerset picking ippo and ??. However if berwick finish second dont think financially as good for any of the teams. Less away fans travelling from somerset or ippo due to distance. Super Blue
Maybe I should change the title of this thread to , Â " Who will complete enough meetings to make the playoffs " ? Â Is there a definitive answer to the cut off date yet ? Somebody has mentioned 14th Sept previously , just wondering if this was a guess ? I mentioned 14sept,it was the date given on the Workington web site regarding their fixture crisis,so I assume it is the cut -off date.Be lucky if fixtures are complete this season IMO never mind that date. Baldyman
I think it's about time that track covers were invested in, surely they would have saved plenty of meetings, and would pay for themselves in the end.
crescent girl
I think it's about time that track covers were invested in, surely they would have saved plenty of meetings, and would pay for themselves in the end. Â Not really. There have been three meetings cancelled at Berwick since June. Â The FIM meeting had a lovely day, official practice was in sunshine, and when rain followed in mid-afternoon the track covers (which Berwick have) were put down. But the rain never stopped. Â The Edinburgh and Rye House matches at the end of July followed virtually perfect weather most of the day, but were cancelled because of ferocious thunderstorms and downpours betweeen six and seven. No track covers in the world would have saved those situations.

The whole point of the covers is, they are on the track during the day (for a 'normal' meeting) if rain is forecast and removed when the rain stops, before the meeting starts, therefore saving the meeting.  Whether Berwick had covers or not, the FIM meeting was going to be an obvious washout, due to the persistant rain.
YAMYAMBANDIT
Just maybe we should start the season with the league fixtures as it is the main event of the season,or is that too complicated. Absolutely agree, PL should start on 1st April and the fixture list should be organised so that every team has a meeting every week (unless totally unavoidable), they have all winter to work it out, it's not rocket science. Berwick had only 2 meetings in May and 2 meetings in June at home, if they want to run the League Cup & the PLKOC, run them at the end of the season, with no interference to the League.
smod
The business of the top two clubs picking their opposition becomes intriguing. Â Currently, Edinburgh and Somerset are on top and likely to finish there. Which, as has been suggested, might allow a north-south splitting of groups. Â However, if Berwick manage to upset the apple-cart and get into top two, how would the expected half-dozen split up then? Â It looks as if Edinburgh, Somerset and Berwick are virtually home and hosed, with, and in no particular order, Ipswich, Scunthorpe, Peterborough, Workington and Newcastle jostling for the remaining three places. Â Would I be far out if I projected any club having 42 points by September 14th would qualify? Â As was stated previously, while the weather has been the cause of most fixture backlogs the two clubs with the biggest home backlogs have surrendered meetings to what can only be loosely described as unusual circumstances. Failure of either to complete their home programmes would certainly have to be considered as a bit of an "own goal" situation.
