Lord Lucan
Play-offs enhance many sports , Rugby League , Ice Hockey , Basketball to name but 3 . Why shouldn't speedway bring it's season to a spectacular end . I'd go even further and have the semi finals and final on a neutral track on the same weekend . Imagine going down to somewhere like Kings Lynn this season and having Edinburgh v Peterborough followed by Ipswich v Berwick on the Saturday . Then the 3rd place meeting followed by the final on the Sunday . Â Dont think you've thought that through, whereas the idea of a one off all or nothing semi/final would be entertaining, how can it be financially viable for the clubs concerned? Play off's by their definition, and many people's opinion on here, are to generate income from end of season matches that mean something to the clubs, how would running those matches on a neutral ground be beneficial to any of them, apart, from the host club? Yeah you're probably right , i was just likening it to what happens with the play-offs in ice hockey . Where the four qualifying clubs do battle at Nottingham ice rink over the one weekend in April . comet49
I was criticised on here last year for explaining the Rugby League play-offs, they seem common to many sports. As for football, the team that finishes third have done so over the full season, the financial reward are high in the Premiership and the same argoment is valid imo. The problem isn't the play-offs , well most of us seem to embrace them as we realise that is the way nearly all team sports are going , it's the fact that clubs pursuing the dream risk putting themselves at risk financially . Time BSPA looked at some structured prize money for league success . Obviously that would mean viable sponsorship , so maybe they should look at bigging the sport up and fulfilling their obligation as custodians of the sport . emilali
As much as some of their fans on here are a tad strange there is no doubt Edinburgh are the best team over the season and are worthy champions.  Play offs are just daft but i see the 'money' side of it.  What happens in the last 'league' meeting if Cook and say Worrall get injured and cant ride in the play offs and another team win it? Sorry in my eyes its wrong  As an Ipswich fan we could (possibly but unlikely) be a beneficiary of any Edinburgh bad luck but the best team should be league champions and through gritted teeth in 2014 that is the Edinburgh Monarchs How are Edinburgh the best when the season isnt even complete yet? Gavan
How are Edinburgh the best when the season isnt even complete yet? not sure who you support but maybe you dont watch/ take notice of the sport? Â Edinburgh are quite clearly the best team in the league and will be top before the play offs

orion
Not sure Leicester would smash Edinburgh to bits Orion, even over 2 legs? You seen Leicester top 5 five ...it's almost 5 pl number ones ...3 of that top five were in the World Cup final last week . Get a grip . Â Edinburgh are quite clearly the best team in the league and will be top before the play offs For all I expect them to be yes, say they get a couple of injuries another team could quite possibly take advantage and finish top. Berwick have many matches in hand for instance. If Berwick win at Redcar this Thursday which they should, then beat Sheffield and Edinburgh at home, Berwick are only 3 behind Edinburgh equal matches. So for all Edinburgh will probably finish top, I dont think its a foregone conclusion. Edited August 6, 2014 by emilali

Baldyman
Â Surely all Edinburgh would have done is finish top to the qualifying group. Having said that, I do believe a piece of silverware or prize money should be presented to the winner of the qualifying table, then maybe more teams may put an effort into winning it. Surely it can't be that hard to find a sponsor for say 20 thousand pounds. Edited August 6, 2014 by Baldyman

Spot on for most people no one even cares or think's who come top . The rules and the mind set is to get in the play offs spots then go from there . Â My Team Swindon have come top and not gone on to win but I never gave it a second thought about being the best side or it being unfair as the rules are quite clear . Baldyman
Jack young, Peter Craven, Lee Richardson, plenty of names could be used.
