Who Will Make The Playoffs ?

Recommended Posts

I think it's about time that track covers were invested in, surely they would have saved plenty of meetings, and would pay for themselves in the end.

Possibly, trouble is nowadays nobody wants to race even if it is light rain and the track is perfectly rideable, all the talk now is visibility.Gone are the boiler suit days and a bit of throttle control. The reason fans are concerned about the forecast nowadays are obvious ,if there is any rain falling the meeting MIGHT not go ahead even though the track is rideable IMO .You very seldom see a meeting held in wet conditions nowadays compared with the past.It annoys me that the same riders will ride in a rain affected Individual Meeting when there is money to be made and might be lost if the meeting is called off.

You are right, and that's before the days of roll off goggles and dirt deflectors. You often see old pictures of riders with goggles round their necks so they can carry on racing. I've also raced karts in the rain at 120 inches from walls, why? Cos the fans had turned up to watch some racing, so that's what we did.

Speedway needs to start moving with the times if it wants to carry on existing, maybe different tire tyre fo really wet tracks, maybe even a new type of material to be used on tracks, but whatever ideas someone comes up with, someone will come up with a reason not to, which is one of the reasons the sport/entertainment is on the way down.

Speedway's main aim these days is to see how fast you can go a track prepared like a motorway.Entertaining for some but not for everybody.

Perhaps they could try Cinders. :D

Only joking - but:

It could be better than some of the slick Tracks we watch these days.

The top half of the league is developing nicely now with the Monarchs off the top for just about the first time this season.

I think the current top 3 in no particular order have safely secured their playoff places so it's down to 6 teams to fight for the final 3 spots.

Have Ipswich and Scunthorpe got enough points in the bag, are Newcastle and Redcar out of it and will Peterborough and particularly Workington complete enough meetings to make it? Who knows, our wonderful British weather might be the ultimate winner in deciding this debate!

Not just the weather. Remember "medical-offs", and the old "H&S-off"!

Don't blame the weather when matches don't get run in lovely sunny conditions.

Also, clubs who are at the thin end of priority for doubling-up/down/sideways riders' services make a rod for their backs when they choose not to run meetings because their full 1-7 isn't available, then find a fixture back-log at the end of term may prevent their getting into the play-offs.

Agree - doesn't that make the 'Play Off' System so pathetic.

The Comets could quite easily clamber into the play offs and challenge for the title without even completing our league programme by the cut off? :o

Would be quite stupifying to a new supporter to see the potential Champions as a team who haven't even played an entire fixture list first, win the title then go back to playing everyone they haven't played yet!! :D

Just in case, this is only hypothetical, even so, it could happen? ;)

Play-offs seem to be the thing nowadays, though I`m not in favour of them for the PL, for the reasons you give, plus I cant get my head round a team finishing sixth can become Champions. Yes they are the rules everyone plays under but for me the Champions are the one with the most points at the end of the season, maybe we should go straight into PL racing at the start of the season and have the lesser competitions at the end.

The Speedway season for most teams starts at the end of March and runs through to mid October.

Theoretically that should be more than plenty enough time to complete all the fixtures required by a date in mid September to leave time for the playoffs at the end .

However , as we know the league cup is run early almost as a pre season warm up tournament and the Prem league doesn't start properly till about month after that .

Therein lies the problem , it's not Rocket science ( no pun intended Rye fans ) to work out a fixture list that incorporates the most important matches first to make sure the yearly farce of uncompleted meetings doesn't effect the overall league at the end of the season !

Obviously some teams will have alot more cancellations than others due to weather etc , not so many for other bizarre medical reasons but I think it would only take a minor effort in re-organization at the highest level and we wouldn't be having any of these problems or arguments in mid August about fixture congestion .

I think it's time for a rethink when it comes to fixture list planning so ,

SORT IT OUT !!!

Note , as long as the Witches make the playoffs !
