Also, they have to fill 90% of the time talking when there is no race actually taking place. Can't be easy. chucks Posted August 1, 2014 Report Share Posted August 1, 2014 I suppose todays commentators are faced with a situation unique to them, and that is that they are commentating every single week, sometimes twice a week and for 3 hours at a time. In the 70's Dave Lanning was on maybe once every three weeks or so and nothing was live in those days - edited highlights only. But as someone has pointed out already, in speedway's case at least the sport is being covered and in Eurosport's case, it's being covered pretty comprehensively. I argued with him, having copped a look at his programme, that at least I knew how to spell the Dane's name! I think he's a "hard charger" of a different variety....... Aaah yes, good old Gentleman jack. I've met him a couple of times, smashing chap. He generally copes well with bike racing, apart from being obsessed with what county riders are from. With 20-30 blokes (and the odd lady) and 20 laps to commentate on he does okay. Leicester Lion Posted August 2, 2014 Report Share Posted August 2, 2014 I would prefer the letter to Eurosport to be praising the fact that they are showing the GP and SWC given that SKY got shot of it and without Eurosport I suspect it would have mattered whether you like the commentator or not because you would have only seen results on the internet P Some people just have nothing better to moan about Some people are perfectly happy to accept mediocrity and defend it by arguing that everyone should do the same because things could be worse. This is speedway's malaise. It holds the sport back in so many ways and lets those who make a living off speedway get away too often with rank amateurism.
