Genuine Question In Relation To King's Lynn Speedway

Recommended Posts

I wonder if any regular Lynn attendees saw who was actually searching the bags. Was it regular NA staff?

I can understand not allowing large cool boxes etc but on a scorching hot day (or even a cool one) everyone should be allowed to take one bottle of water in. It's not as if there are water fountains etc available inside is it. Surely access to water is a basic human right.

It's all to make money. "Most" stadiums in speedway don't have these rules & it has never been the norm at speedway at any track in the UK or anywhere else TBH in the past. They will tell you it is about safety, but it's all about money. It may be the stadium owner, the event organiser or Santa Claus but it is about money, because if it wasn't, then A) They would let you take food & drink in, and/or B) The prices for the drinks & food inside wouldn't be a rip off.

I have attended big meetings both at home & abroad & it seems it is a modern day phenomenon. Having attended numerous World Finals, British Finals, various other World Championship rounds & big meetings, the only place I have ever not been able to take drinks in is Cardiff.

I was at Marmande for a World Long Track Final round last year & whole families were arriving with cool boxes, crates of beer, wine, massive food hampers, tables & chairs, picnic rugs, the whole nine yards & this at a venue that gets absolutely packed. There was no issue with anyone & no trouble due to alcohol.

I can certainly see why larges boxes etc are not allowed into all seat venues, but not other venues. There is no need, it all boils down to money.

Interestingly, it is a point of law that if you are at such a venue, they must provide tap water free of charge without exception.

I believe there are notices around the box office and turnstyles at Lynn forbidding food and drink being taken in, however I've never seen or heard of them searching bags for a Stars meeting.

If they did that would be bang out of order, and would do nothing but drive more fans away from the track/s. Speedway fans are Speedway fans. and theres not many sports like ours nowadays.

That's well worth knowing.

Thank you for the information - I will remember it. :t:

Does the tap water from the sinks in the bogs qualify ?

If so, thanks but no thanks :nono:

I was at Kings Lynn the other week and never seen anyone searched . Sheffield a couple of years ago at the PLRC was the worst case of that i've ever seen . The only place i've smuggled stuff into was cans of beer at Stoke , only because the beer sold in the bar was minging .

To me if you know about it and still go then you have yourself to blame.Said before it is up to the customer to find out the conditions before buying a ticket and entering the stadium. It seems Lynn actually did have signs up near where you buy tickets,so everything is in order.

Like i mentioned on the other thread on the KL meeting,i too have been the 'victim' at Holsted where my water bottle was taken off me before i bought a ticket.Having ridden 2,5 hours to get to the track there was no way i wasn't going to buy a ticket to see the meeting. But i made a point of not buying anything in the stadium.

Generally like someone mentioned about France,Germany and Denmark are sort of family picnic tracks, where people come with deckchairs and food/drink.The exception being the big tracks in the north east of Germany where they sell concessions and i guess part of the contract is that people aren't allowed to bring in their own stuff.I remember at Teterow they had skinhead type security that would search you and there were a lot of complaints about them on the old german forum.A journalist friend of mine also had a heated debate with one of the guys involved in running the Berlin Ice Speedway meeting because in his review of the meeting he criticised the policy of not allowing people to bring in food and drink(and also fold up chairs). The guys answer was that people aren't allowed to bring in their own stuff in concert halls etc.But my friend said this is speedway, not concerts.....

Basically i make sure i am well fed and watered if i go to these tracks. You either like it or lump it imo as you should know or make it your business to find out if you are going to be annoyed by such things.-The other alternative is to boycott these meetings and maybe write an email to the promoter mentioning the reason why

I'm sure signs have been posted outside the stadium for several years now. My family has ALWAYS taken a flask of coffee and/or cans of drink to speedway, but we have NEVER EVER been asked to open our bags so I'm convinced these bouncers must've been BSI staff.

has the promotion made any comment on this subject?

i may be wrong, but the food/drink outlets profits, would surely go to the promotion? if thats the case, i doubt bsi members would be searching?

Most places expect you to purchase food & drink inside the venue. They are paying rent on the place, & should be allowed to generate cash from every outlet possible in my opinion. The bigger problem for me is the poor quality & choice of food offered.

Exactly and there's hardly choice is there, burgers, pies and chips is about all you get. I never eat stadium food, it's cheap and nasty in the main!

does the stadium offer free water?

even nightclubs (that clearly are in the money making business) supply free water..

look, if this is a kings lynn policy, let it be known..if it is, fair enough, we then all know, but what niggles me, is that someone saw an oppertuinty to fleece the public for every penny here..

Calm down, dear.

Its been established that its only on SWC night.

I'm very calm thank you!............dear!!!!!!

Glad to hear its only on SWC, still very very wrong though!

While Buster Chapman deserves every piece of credit for what he's done at King's Lynn, the place is far from the being as heavenly as some make out particularly the very over rated racing!

If you don't like the racing ,don't go. It's so simple a solution even I can manage it.

Seems like ColinMills doesn't like anything about King's Lynn speedway.

In my umpteen years of going to Lynn I have never had my bag searched or food/drinks taken off me.Only at the SWC does this occur so we know not to take anything, blimey you even have to drink the free monster energy drink you get just before you get in.

There are signs saying about no personal food/drink allowed into the stadium,it's been there a while not sure how long though.I'm afraid this happens at most major events throughout the UK.

As regards the men searching your bags,i have never ever seen these at King's Lynn speedway before. If you look at the terms and conditions of your ticket the event organisers can search you bags although this is meant to be on safety grounds.

I think people are making mountains out of molehills here, just on one event that happens to occur at King's Lynn.It could be at another track and I bet the same would happen.

You also mentioned it's common knowledge you cant take your own food/drink to the cinema is it common knowledge?

In that case I strongly recommend you take a trip to Berwick. :t:

Seems a bit contradictory that.

So you HAVE actually had problems over food and drink. :o;):P
