World Cup Final 2nd August 2014

Recommended Posts

Interesting that Tai and Rosco both alluded to a plan for the future. Question is - is it with the cooperation of the BSPA or inspite of them?

Should it be the BSPA or the ACU using money gained from the FIM? After all the BSPA gain nothing from world speedway unlike the FIM .....

Tonight proved more than ever that we need to get our riders appearing abroad a lot more than they are now. Stead and King looked very naive at times but I feel for them, not their fault they are among the best four available and its not Rosco's fault either. Hopefully the five year plan involves our youngsters riding on the continent and that Rosco gets more support from the BSPA than Rob did.

As for the meeting fantastic last heat from Puk, top class. Feel a little for Poland but thems the rules. Australia disappointing apart from the excellent Doyle. Danes really ought to have picked MJJ but really pleased for Mads.

All 4 riders either currently rides in Sweden or previously have ridden in Sweden. Tai is riding for Vetlanda, Chris Harris is riding for Rospiggarna.

Daniel King have previously been riding for Smederna, Vargarna, Dackarna and Västervik.

I don't remember which teams Stead rode for but I think it was Indianerna and possible Vargarna.

I have no idea what posts you have been reading.

Clearly not mine if you believe i have said the EL is in good shape.

Have you had an eye test recently?

I might take you a bit seriously if you think the likes of Lambert aren't a real talent.

We all know that Lambert is a talent that's why I was so disappointed that he was not involved he has the talent and the team great supportive parents and he would of revelled in that today. Not to worry his time will come, you are one of the EL great believers i go everyweek yet i don't see the product that you keep saying is good and you often put in a snipe remark about the PL along the way.

Look at what the Poles, Aussies and Danes all left out and tell me what Rosco could and should have done?

Are people saying Stead and King should have been left out at the NA and replaced by X and Y? Christ we just about scraped past Australia C. No Stead and King and we would have then been in the run off and failed to qualify for the final. Rosco would have been slated for being no better than Middlo!

Or should he have said thanks to Stead and King but we don't need you for the final and watched Lambert, Worrall or whoever trail in half a lap behind? The exact same thing people moan about regarding the fast track riders in the EL. It would have been men against boys...literally.

We are mediocre with 1 decent rider. Throwing in Lambert, Worrall, Cook or anybody else you care to mention would have done nothing for them or their confidence. I mean, all those named struggle in a watered down EL, however, I will say Lambert is showing promise but now is not his time. The only way we will compete is when our own riders ride against the best, in their top league, in their own backyard and can mix it regularly.

Until then people will just have to accept that is all we have and that we will only ever finish 4th or 5th at best.

You are one of those like Gavan who will never let it drop totally anti Poole, fourth today but a totally outclassed fourth another year wasted.

I dont hate all thing Poole and yes I am generally anti-Poole because I think theres a lot to be anti-Poole about. I certainly don't like Middlo as a person (just from reading his twitter and comments like "it's what all kids do isn't it" when Ward took drugs and evaded the Police FFS!) and rate him very lowly as a team manager. We're constantly told he can turn poor riders into good but nobody has ever given me the name of a rider he's done that with. Yet I can give you the name of Jason Doyle. 4 seasons at Poole, going nowhere. Left to work with Rosco, then Morris and now Norris Allen and look at him. World Cup star.

As for 4th, it's not great but look at it realistically, Who should we be beating and who should we be losing too. We are realistically not going to beat Poland, Denmark, Australia or a full Russian team (I actually think if Russia sent their best 4 riders they could win the SWC) but we should be scrapping with Sweden while beating the Czechs, Americans and Latvians. Last year we lost to the last 3 names teams plus Sweden, this year we beat them! Surely you can see how last year, finishing 7th was epic failure (to quote the kids) while 4th was sort of what we'd expect.

What we have to do now is make sure we build on it. Don't go, "4th, yeah, thats alright" we now have to say, next year 4th is the minimum target but the year after we want 3rd and the year after the win. Be realistic, we're not going to win the SWC today or next year. Lets get a team, with King, Cook, Stea,d the Worralls, Lambert, Garrity etc out to Denmark, Sweden and Poland to race. Frankly even Germany and Italy would do - lets just try different tracks. Did you know Craig cook has raced 1 meeting outside the UK!!!! He should not be using the SWC to get that experience. He should be whoring himself out to German promoters looking for meetings out there each Sunday so he gets to try different tracks and then speaking to Polish clubs and offering his services in any challenge or individual meetings they have.

4th was an OK result. Rosco used his joker correctly (admittedly I would have probably put him in for Steads 2nd ride but minor thing really). I would have also taken Stead out of one of his last 2 rides and put Harris and probably even King in - at least they looked like possibly getting a point - unlike Stead who stood somewhere between little and no chance.

Don't agree ..in sport you got give yourself the best possible chance . If had got with your attitude we would have got beat last week rather than getting a great win .

Just depends whether you are a realist or a hopeless optimist I guess.

Blackbird is getting close to 30 anyway! ..................

Bloody Nora, didn't realise. Apparently 27 but point taken :D

Did I really imagine it tonight, or was Woffinden complaining about not being race-fit little over a week of complaining of too many meetings? He's a bloody hard man to please!

Got that impression myself but as one of the dissenting Wolves fans thought it best to keep me gob shut :D

Likewise.

I`d have preferred we put Lambert and Kerr in last Saturday, or Garrity. Time is NOW to start the road to bringing on the next generation. Thanks to the EL these kids (who are good enough) have a platform to build a career on. In saying that the team Rosco picked did the business (last Saturday) but i do hope this 5 year plan than has been mentioned includes the next generation from now on.

I watch great EL racing at Monmore most weeks - and the reserves races often are a highlight. Obviously that makes me wrong for dare suggesting its been a good plan because you don't find it interesting.

By the way isn't `putting in a snide remark about the PL` (by me) any different to `putting in a snide remark about the EL (by you) ?

Just saying.

Not all about that .. Speedway World cup would be no more if everyone decided to put out fast track riders in meetings . teams have to show the world cup respect rather than using it as a training ground

Well said.

We finished 4th - so we are ranked ABOVE Sweden, ABOVE America, ABOVE Russia, ABOVE Latvia, ABOVE Czech Republic.

And before anyone suggests any of those Countries would have scored more - THEY DIDN'T QUALIFY.

Dress it as you want. A distant 4th is better than 6th or 7th.

There's a world of difference riding in our Mickey Mouse league and doing it week in week out. I will give you Iversen and Doyle as 2 names who have taken an awful long time for the penny to drop and for them to demonstrate that they are decent riders at the highest level.

Lambert has potential...like Bridger...like Kennett...like Barker and where are they now? All of them touted the next best thing. Lambert is better learning his craft and stepping up in to Sweden and Poland when he is ready. He is very young and could well be a top class rider but putting him now could do more damage than good.
