Sheffield Vs Somerset Pl On Sky 28/07

Brilliant news about Andre Compton.

But what a dull, boring racetrack it is at Owlerton. Limited racing lines, riders having to scrub the speed off.......I'm surprised anyone would pay good money for that dross.

Take a trip 60 miles down the M1

I must admit i haven't usually been a fan of the Sheffield track (have been bout 8 times) but i thought after the first 4 heats or so it was a decent meeting to watch.

People can't stand there because of the Hillsborough disaster up the road!

This is not quite true Hell'n'Back...The back straight was closed after Hillsborough, however they are allowed to use it now but the Promotion choose not to. It was open when Sean Wilson won the PLRC by diving under Adam Shields on the 3rd bend, it was also open for Sean's Testimonial.the reason? cost..It would cost extra for stewarding and to clean up afterwards so they leave it closed...if they had crowds that determined they needed to open it they would...Mr Machin told me this 4 or 5 years ago.

Nice to see speedway as it should be raced without all the top GP riders raceing of from the start into the sunset. Think the Shefiel lads where helt back about by injuries then we would have had a true meeting as it was they struggled at times with the injured riders. Must say though thorouly enjoyed the meeting

Great to hear that the 2 riders came away from those terrible crashes.

We need more meeting like this The EL is far to boring to have to sit and watch at times same goes for the GP's it is just a long string of riders with the first away from the tapes winning the race.

Made a welcome change, to see riders riding as thyey should do as a pair to keep the other teams riders behind them. Well done.

Andre Compton has posted a couple of things on Twitter this afternoon, although very saw all over, he is ok and after plenty of rest will be back in action next Thursday, he is also thankful to the first aid team at Owlerton and to the staff at the hospital.

He is one lucky lad.

Fair play to the first aid team, that is going to give him a hell of an advantage when it comes to a first bend cut back.

Glad Andre is on the mend.

I thought the first half of the meeting was actually pretty dull. Livened up as the night went on but certainly no better than the average televised matches.

Throughly enjoyed the meeting at Sheffield and delighted to hear both riders are ok after especially Andre's horrific looking crash

Been to Sheffield twice and found it superb - welcoming staff , good view of the pits , nice track and IMO one of the best Ive been to over the last few years

Having had time to gather my thoughts now here a few of thoughts.

Nice to see Andre and Oliie were not as badly hurt as feared.

The size of the crowd, when you on the telly yes the crowd did appear to a bit sparse, but when we arrived at the stadium which would be around 07.25pm , the car park was virtually full, which means there was more people at the speedway meeting or the roulette tables of the casino next to the stadium was about to take record takings. My guess is that the massive bar area was pretty full and that was the fans that you would not be able to see.

The racing was a bit processional to start with but it did get better much better later on. And one thing that you would expect with the hot weather would be dust, did anyone see any dust?

Sheffield, I thought we were carrying to many injured riders especially when a team like Somerset in town. I thought that Andre had his best performance in Sheffield colour's, and Taylor Poole just seems to be getting better and better.

Somerset, were good, but in recent years they have always put together good attractive teams. Ollie Allen was once again superb around the Owlerton bowl, and Brady Kurtz definitely looks as though he has something about him.

Big Al's comments about Leicester been a better race track than Sheffield really!!!!!!!!!

On the whole I thought the new Sheffield Promotion showed that they can put on a show for SKY, and did the Premier League proud and the investments they have made a starting bear fruition, only thing missing now is the results. It will be interesting to see how they fair for next season when they start team building on a level playing field with the rest of the league.
